What is mediastinal lymph node metastasis

What is mediastinal lymph node metastasis

Hello, it means that cancer cells from other organs have metastasized to the lymph nodes. Patients are advised to receive active treatment. When metastasis occurs, the disease has generally progressed to the middle and late stages and cannot be cured under current medical conditions. However, as long as patients actively cooperate with the treatment, there is still hope of improving their quality of life and prolonging their survival period with the tumor.

In the process of metastasis , lymph node metastasis usually first reaches the group of lymph nodes closest to the tumor (the first station), and then successively reaches the ones farther away (the second station and the third station). When the tumor cells infiltrate and grow at each station, they also spread to the adjacent lymph nodes in the same group. However, there are exceptions. Some patients can also metastasize directly to a group of lymph nodes farther away (the second station or the third station) by bypassing the lymph nodes in the short circuit. This type of metastasis is clinically called skip metastasis. For example, when cervical cancer metastasizes to the pelvic retroperitoneum and mediastinal lymph nodes without metastasis, the cervical lymph nodes will metastasize first.

In addition, metastasis may occur in the direction opposite to the lymphatic confluence, to the lymph nodes on the centrifugal side, which may be the result of obstruction of the lymphatic vessels in the downstream direction. For example, cervical cancer metastasizes to the intraperitoneal lymph nodes, and gastric cancer metastasizes to the medullary lymph nodes or intraperitoneal lymph nodes. These characteristics increase the complexity of tumor metastasis, resulting in some patients being diagnosed with metastatic cancer in the cervical lymph nodes but ultimately unable to find the primary lesion. This is a rather special problem when choosing treatment plans clinically, as the treatment time is sometimes delayed due to the search for the primary lesion, thus affecting the patient's prognosis.

Prevention method A) Develop good living habits, quit smoking and limit alcohol and smoking. The World Health Organization predicts that if people stop smoking, the world's cancer will be reduced by 1/3 in 5 years. Second, don’t drink alcohol. Tobacco and alcohol are extremely acidic substances. People who smoke and drink for a long time are very likely to develop an acidic constitution. B) Do not eat too much salty and spicy food, and do not eat overheated, overcooled, expired or spoiled food; the elderly, the weak, or those with a genetic predisposition to certain diseases should eat some anti-cancer foods and alkaline foods with high alkaline content as appropriate to maintain a good mental state. C) Have a good attitude to deal with stress, combine work and rest, and avoid overwork. It can be seen that stress is an important cause of cancer. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that stress leads to overwork and physical weakness, which in turn causes decreased immune function, endocrine disorders, metabolic disorders in the body, and the deposition of acidic substances in the body; and stress can also lead to mental tension, causing qi stagnation, blood stasis, and internal toxic fire. D) Strengthen physical exercise, improve physical fitness, exercise more in the sun, and sweat more to excrete acidic substances in the body with sweat, avoiding the formation of an acidic constitution. E) Life should be regular. People with irregular living habits, such as singing karaoke all night, playing mahjong, staying out all night, etc., will aggravate the acidification of the body and be prone to cancer. We should develop good living habits to maintain a weak alkaline physique and keep various cancers away from ourselves. F) Do not eat contaminated food, such as contaminated water, crops, poultry, fish eggs, moldy food, etc. Eat some green organic food to prevent diseases from entering the body through the mouth.
