Can I turn on the air conditioner when my child has a cold?

In the summer, children catch a cold and feel particularly uncomfortable. At this time, parents don’t know whether to turn on the air conditioner or not. The first thing to understand is that if the air conditioner temperature is set very low, this is an important cause of the baby’s cold. However, if the weather is hot and the indoor temperature is hot, if the air conditioner is not turned on at this time, the overheated weather will also be detrimental to the baby’s health. There is no problem with turning on the air conditioner, the key is to control it at a reasonable temperature.

Can I turn on the air conditioner when my child has a cold?

It is common for babies to catch colds in the summer. Normally, babies should not use air conditioning when they have a cold, especially when accompanied by a fever, as this will make them prone to bronchitis infection and aggravate the cold. But if the high temperature continues, the baby will not be able to bear it. The baby needs to stay in an environment with suitable temperature, otherwise it is easy to get heatstroke. So strictly speaking, if the baby has a cold in summer, he should not be directly exposed to the air conditioner, but he can stay in an air-conditioned environment with a temperature of about 28℃.

Precautions for babies using air conditioning

1. Ventilate in time. Ventilate every 6 to 8 hours when turning on the air conditioner. The longest time should not exceed 12 hours, and each time should last 20 to 30 minutes. Especially when the air conditioner is turned on in the evening until going to bed at night, the air should be changed once before going to bed. A small window can be opened in the air-conditioned room to facilitate air exchange. If you don’t want to turn off the air conditioner when ventilating, you can adjust the air conditioner cooling temperature to the highest. If your baby has allergies or respiratory problems, you can install an air purifier indoors to improve the air quality. 2. Cover your baby with a quilt. Cover your baby with a quilt that is not too thick. Cover sensitive parts such as the stomach, chest, shoulders, and joints. In short, do not let the air conditioner blow directly on the baby. If your baby has the habit of kicking the quilt, you can make a sleeping bag for him.

3. Clean the air conditioner filter in time. About every half a month, parents should use plenty of clean water to flush the air filter (filter membrane) of the air conditioner so that the indoor air quality can be guaranteed. At the same time, the cooling plate in the air conditioner should also be cleaned regularly. 4. Monitor body temperature regularly. Measure your baby’s temperature at least once a day, just in case.
