The urine of normal people is generally transparent. However, if someone has mild symptoms of getting angry, their urine will have a slight yellow tint. However, if a person is sick, there will be some abnormalities in the urine, and some people find that their urine contains crystals. Especially for some parents, it is very worrying to find that their newborn has urine crystals. So what causes urine crystals in newborns? 1. What is neonatal crystalluria? 1. Phosphate crystals: If a large amount of calcium phosphate crystals are seen in the urine for a long time, it should be considered in combination with clinical data whether the patient suffers from hyperparathyroidism, renal tubular acidosis, or bone decalcification due to long-term bed rest. 2. Calcium oxalate crystals: If the excretion of oxalate increases and the patient clinically exhibits urinary tract irritation symptoms (dysuria, frequent urination, urgency) or renal colic combined with hematuria, attention should be paid to the possibility of urinary tract stones. 3. Uric acid crystals: Under normal circumstances, eating more animal offal containing high purine content can increase the uric acid in the urine. However, in cases of acute gout, acute fever in children, chronic interstitial nephritis, and leukemia, a large amount of urate can also be excreted due to the decomposition of the cell nucleus. 4. Ammonium urate crystals: This type of crystal is easily seen in the urine of normal people, especially children (newborns, infants). If the urine is left for too long, it is meaningless to see this crystal. However, if it appears in fresh urine, bacterial infection of the bladder should be considered. 2. How to detect abnormal signals from urine 1. The urine is yellow. If a newborn baby's urine is yellow, it is usually due to neonatal jaundice. If accompanied by fever, fatigue, a significant loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and other discomforts, and tenderness in the liver area of the abdomen, the baby may be suffering from jaundiced hepatitis. 2. The urine is red. It is usually hematuria. Hematuria is a signal of many diseases. It can be caused by diseases of the urinary tract itself, systemic diseases, medications, or diseases of adjacent organs. 3. Frequent urination. If your baby urinates frequently without an increase in urine volume, it may be pathological and you should take your baby to the hospital for further examination as soon as possible. 4. Less urine. If the baby has oliguria due to diarrhea, fever, or kidney disease, you should observe the baby carefully. If it is caused by diarrhea or fever, the baby needs to be supplemented with appropriate amount of fluid; if accompanied by edema, the intake of water and salt should be strictly limited to avoid aggravating the edema. |
