TCM treatment of appendicitis

1. Acute simple appendicitis

For the treatment of acute simple appendicitis, Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture are both very good methods, and both have good therapeutic effects. We first choose acupuncture treatment.

(1) Acupuncture

Acupoints: Appendix, Zusanli, and Youtianshu.

Acupuncture method: Strong stimulation of the appendix point. This point is often tender to the touch, so the needle should be inserted at the painful point. At the same time, acupuncture the point in the left lower abdomen that is opposite to the tenderness point in the right lower abdomen, or the right Tianshu, with strong stimulation. The needle can be left in for several minutes or 1 to 2 hours, twisting it every 15 minutes. If the effect is not effective, stimulate Zusanli again. For those with fever, nausea, or vomiting, add Quchi, Hegu, Neiting, etc. Give the injection 2 to 3 times a day until the symptoms disappear. For those with poor physical constitution or mild illness, weaker stimulation should be used.

(2) Herbal prescriptions

1. Put the red vine and Patrinia salsa in the pot and boil them first, then add raw rhubarb. Drink it after cooking, one or two doses a day.

2. Take 60-100 grams of Hedyotis diffusa, 30-60 grams of Bourdon hazel, 10 grams of Zanthoxylum bungeanum, and 10 grams of raw rhubarb (added later), decocted in water and taken, one or two doses a day.

3. Take 30-60 grams each of Calendula officinalis and Hedyotis diffusa, decocted in water and taken, one or two doses a day.

4. Take 100 grams of Galium (a plant of the genus Galium in the Rubiaceae family, produced in Anhui and Jiangsu), decocted in water and taken on an empty stomach.

(3) Chinese medicine

A prescription for appendicitis (modifications of Rhubarb and Peony Root Decoction): 12 grams of raw rhubarb (added last), 12 grams of peach kernel, 30 grams of wax gourd kernel, 10 grams of moutan bark, 15 grams of dandelion, 3 grams of Glauber's salt (taken with water), 12 grams of Gleditsia sinensis thorn, decocted in water. If the illness is serious, add 30 grams of Purslane (Guizhou Hui) and 30 grams of Hedyotis diffusa. One dose can be taken every 10 to 12 hours.

This recipe has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. A mild laxative after taking the medicine can eliminate foreign matter and inflammatory exudates in the intestinal cavity, improve local blood circulation, and help the inflammation subside.

After 3 days of treatment, most patients no longer have any subjective symptoms or abdominal signs. To prevent recurrence, you can continue to take Dahuang Sini San: 10 grams of raw rhubarb (added later), 10 grams of peach kernel, 30 grams of wax gourd kernel, 10 grams of bupleurum, 10 grams of red peony root, 6 grams of Citrus aurantium, and 6 grams of licorice. Take 1 dose daily for 3 consecutive days.
