What should you pay attention to when you have ringworm on your thighs?

Thigh tinea is a type of tinea that grows on the thighs. It is generally caused by fungal infection. If not treated in time, the scope of the tinea will expand and it will cause discomfort to the patient such as itching and pain. When treating thigh skin ringworm, you should not use medication blindly, especially use stimulant ointments with caution, choose the dosage form correctly, adhere to a sufficient course of treatment, wear breathable clothes and shoes, stay away from sick cats and dogs, and disinfect contaminated items.

1. Use hormone ointment with caution

The misuse of hormonal ointments for skin ringworm is a very common phenomenon. Skin ringworm is caused by fungal infection. Although hormone ointments have a certain antipruritic effect, the use of hormones will lead to a decrease in local immune function, which is more conducive to fungal reproduction and causes the spread of lesions. In addition, long-term and inappropriate external use of hormone ointments will also bring side effects such as persistent local skin erythema, thinning or atrophy of the skin, capillary dilation, and thickening of hair. Some side effects, such as skin atrophy, cannot be recovered from once they occur. Therefore, hormone ointments should be avoided or used with caution for skin ringworm.

2. Choose the right dosage form

In the process of treating hand tinea, although some patients choose antifungal drugs, the improper selection of drug dosage forms also leads to very serious consequences. Many patients apply antifungal ointment as long as they suffer from ringworm. Little do people know that ointments cannot be applied externally for tinea if skin erosion and exudation occur. Because when the ointment is covered on the surface of eroded and exudated skin, it will affect the discharge of exudate, causing local temperature increase and secondary infection; it can also promote the absorption of fungal antigens and cause systemic reactions. At this time, the correct treatment method is to apply a wet compress with the solution, and then apply an antifungal ointment after the area is dry.

3. Adhere to a sufficient course of treatment

Many patients believe that skin ringworm cannot be cured and is prone to recurrence, but this is not always the case. As long as the drugs and dosage forms are chosen appropriately and the treatment course is sufficient, such as using topical drugs for tinea corporis and tinea manuum and pedis for 3 to 4 weeks (because the renewal of the epidermis takes about 4 weeks), most cases can be cured. If some preventive measures are taken after recovery, recurrence is rare.

4. Breathable clothes, shoes and socks

Fungi tend to grow and reproduce in high temperature and high humidity environments. We should pay attention to keeping our clothes, shoes and socks loose, breathable and dry. This will deprive the fungi of the favorable conditions for growth and reproduction, thereby reducing the occurrence of ringworm.

5. Stay away from sick cats and dogs

Animals with ringworm, such as cats and dogs, are sources of infection for skin ringworm. Staying away from or treating sick animals can avoid or reduce the occurrence of such skin diseases.

6. Disinfection of contaminated items

You should pay attention to personal hygiene, do not share towels, slippers, and foot basins, and change clothes, shoes and socks frequently. Clothing contaminated by fungi must be disinfected. Public baths should also be disinfected regularly. This will effectively cut off the transmission path.
