Hot compress with coarse salt is a common health care method, and many people who are keen on skin care like to use hot compress with coarse salt. As we enter middle age, our physical fitness continues to decline and many diseases come knocking, including lumbar disc herniation. Generally speaking, this is caused by not paying attention to our sitting and back posture when we were young. Therefore, young people should not take advantage of their age to abuse themselves at will. Does hot compress with coarse salt have any therapeutic effect on lumbar disc herniation?

  1. Hot compress with salt can be considered a health care treatment method in Traditional Chinese Medicine, just like cupping and scraping. Doing this exercise when you are not sick can help keep fit. Hot compresses with salt can relieve muscle spasms and reduce pain.

  2. Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of using salt. It is believed that salt is salty and cold in nature, and has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, cooling blood, moistening dryness, nourishing yin, relieving constipation, and stopping vomiting. Traditional Chinese medicines prepared with salt are mostly used to tonify the kidney and strengthen the essence, promote diuresis and purge heat. They can lead the medicine into the kidney to treat lower body diseases. Common salt-prepared medicinal materials include Phellodendron chinense, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Psoralea corylifolia, Citrus aurantium, etc.

  3. Drinking light salt water can replenish body fluids. People who work under high temperatures in the summer can drink salty soda to cool down and quench their thirst. For people with constipation, drinking a glass of light salt water on an empty stomach after getting up in the morning can promote digestion, remove bad breath, clear intestinal heat and relieve constipation. Soaking your feet in warm salt water after exercise can relieve muscle soreness. Adding a few handfuls of salt to the bathtub when taking a bath can eliminate fatigue and relieve itching.

  4. In the treatment of some inflammatory conditions, salt can be used as an auxiliary medicine. After being bitten by poisonous insects such as bees, scorpions, centipedes, etc., wash the affected area immediately with concentrated salt water to relieve pain, reduce swelling and remove poison. Patients with trachoma and conjunctivitis can wash their eyes with light salt water every morning, which has anti-inflammatory and eyesight-improving effects. The climate is dry in autumn and winter, and acute and chronic pharyngitis and tonsillitis are common. When you feel slight discomfort in your throat, you can gargle with light salt water in the morning; when your throat is swollen and painful, gargle with concentrated salt water five or six times a day, which can have an anti-inflammatory and bactericidal effect.

  5. For stomachache caused by liver qi stagnation, you can apply hot compress with salt and fennel. Take 31 grams of fennel and 16 grams of cumin, mash them and add 1 bowl of coarse salt (about 450 grams), stir-fry them together and put them in a cloth bag. Wrap them with a towel and iron the stomach and back while they are hot. This can relax and relieve stomach spasms, and have the effect of unblocking stomach qi and eliminating stomach problems. For abdominal pain, acute bladder paralysis and urinary obstruction caused by cold, use 250 grams of granular salt, fry it until hot, put it into a cloth bag, and apply it to the painful area and lower abdomen. It can dispel cold, relieve pain and promote urination.
