The efficacy and function of agarwood

The main raw material of agar-agar is agar-agar, which is a practical seaweed with very good nutritional value. After cooling, it will solidify like jelly, which is translucent and clear. Adding some honey water or sugar water has a good cooling effect and has the effect of removing summer heat. It also has a good effect in moistening the lungs, relieving cough and reducing phlegm. Agar-agar cake has a long history and is still loved by many people.

The efficacy and function of agarwood:

Agarwood is sweet, salty and cold in nature, and has the functions of moistening the lungs, resolving phlegm, clearing away heat and softening hard masses. Li Shizhen, the "Medicine Saint" of the Ming Dynasty, recorded in his "Compendium of Materia Medica": "(Agar) has the function of clearing heat and moistening the lungs, resolving diseases and softening hard masses. It is used for lung heat disease, enteritis, and dysentery." The Chinese Pharmacopoeia records: The whole agar can be used as medicine, and can treat phlegm, goiter, enteritis, hemorrhoids, bronchitis and other diseases. It is worth mentioning that agar paste is a wonderful product for relieving heat and reducing fire in summer. Agar paste looks similar to jelly, but tastes crispy and tender. When eating, the store owner uses a tool similar to a planer to scrape the solid agar agar into even thin strips and put it in a bowl, add red bean paste or taro paste, and scoop a spoonful of honey water, and it will be a refreshing special snack in summer.

Gypsum has a history of hundreds of years in Quanzhou and is still very popular today. Agar jelly is made from a natural plant, agar jelly that grows on the seabed and is extremely difficult to pick. There are many kinds of ingredients that can be used with agar-agar, including lotus seed soup, red bean paste, mung bean paste, white fungus, date cake, grass jelly honey, diced taro, diced fresh fruit, etc. Agar-agar is inexpensive and good quality, suitable for all ages, and is quite popular among Quanzhou people.

The Origin of the Name “Shihua”

There is a touching legend along the coast of southern Fujian: Once upon a time, in a fishing village on the southeast coast, there lived a loving couple. The wife was named Shihua, who was virtuous and intelligent. Whenever her husband came back late from fishing, Shihua would always go to the high reef in the harbor and wait on tiptoe. One day, the sea was windy and the clouds were as dark as ink. Shihua came to the old place "Waiting for Husband Rock" again, waiting for the returning sail of her husband, but after waiting for most of the day, there was still no sign of her husband's sail.

Shihua was extremely anxious. Suddenly, a strong wave came towards her. She saw under the towering reef, a fisherman who had fallen into the water due to a shipwreck was waving and calling for help. At this critical moment of life and death, Shihua broke through the shackles of worldly life, gritted her teeth, and pulled the dying male fisherman up with all her strength. However, she herself slipped on the slippery reefs and fell into the rough sea, never to come up again.

When Shihua's husband came home late and heard the bad news, he rushed to the reef where Shihua often stood and cried bitterly. Oddly enough, after the weather cleared and the waves calmed, a kind of simple, elegant and lovely unknown little flower actually grew on the stone. In order to commemorate this brave fisherman, the villagers named this strange sea creature "Stone Flower".
