How to prevent pressure sores?

In daily life, pressure sores are a common physical disease. There are many reasons for pressure sores. Especially for the elderly who are physically weak and bedridden for a long time, it is easy to cause pressure sores. Pressure sores have a great impact on physical health and can easily affect the health of the skin. They need to be prevented in time. There are many ways to prevent pressure sores, which can be prevented by massage or turning over.

Prevention methods

First of all, we must pay attention to turning the patient over frequently.

Because of the long-term pressure on body tissues and insufficient blood supply to body tissues, bedsores are easily caused. Therefore, we should turn patients who cannot take care of themselves over frequently, once every one to two hours, to avoid continued pressure on bony protrusions. A recommended lying position is: the back of the body forms a 30° angle with the wound surface, and then use a cushion to stabilize the body. This can effectively avoid continued pressure on bony protrusions.

Provide good hygiene for patients

Indoor hygiene: Ventilate frequently to keep the indoor air circulating; dry bedding frequently to maintain a dry living environment; scrub the patient's body frequently to prevent bacteria from growing on the skin and infecting the skin tissue; change and wash underwear frequently.

Provide nutritional supplements to patients

Generally, patients who have been bedridden for a long time and are in a weak physical condition need to supplement with large amounts of protein, and should consume more eggs, lean meat, fish, and milk. They also need to supplement with adequate vitamins and trace elements, eat more green vegetables, and consume more fruits such as kelp and fungus.

Provide ideological guidance to patients

Once a person is bedridden for a long time, his mental state will become very negative and his attitude towards life will become pessimistic, which can easily affect the patient's physical activities and treatment mentality. Therefore, it is necessary to communicate more with the patient, provide psychological counseling, and establish a positive life state to help the patient's recovery.

Massage the patient

For patients in a vegetative state or paralyzed in bed, they are unable to turn over or do any personal care by themselves. As family members or caregivers, we need to massage the patients, massage the pressured parts, dredge the meridians, and promote blood circulation.

Post-bedsore care

For redness and swelling

To relieve pressure, wipe the red and swollen area with alcohol and massage gently. It will take some time to recover

Blisters that appear

First disinfect with iodine tincture, then use a sterile syringe to extract the liquid inside, then dip it clean with absorbent cotton, and disinfect with iodine tincture every day.

Large wounds

First, clean the wound with saline and clean the scab and ulcer tissue. After the red flesh surface is exposed, use absorbent cotton to dip in Yu’s/bedsore moist compress to treat the wound. Three times a day.

Precautions

For patients with weak bodies, it is important to take preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of bedsores. For bedsores that do occur, early detection and early treatment are necessary to prevent them from getting worse.
