What is the best conservative treatment for humeral fractures?

What is the best conservative treatment for humeral fractures?

In daily life, the humerus is located in the shoulder and arm of the human body, and a fracture of the humerus will affect the movement of the shoulder and normal life. Generally, a fracture of the humerus requires timely treatment, and conservative treatment is a more common method. It can be treated first with plaster fixation. Reducing shoulder activities and eating more high-protein foods can promote healing.

What is the conservative treatment for humeral fractures?

The dislocated healing of humeral shaft fractures in the upper arm has little effect on the function, and the upper arm requires good flexibility. Because the humeral shaft is relatively long, it is easy to fix with plaster or splints, so it is rare for the humerus to grow with a large dislocation and a large bend.

Humerus fracture care

Humeral fracture refers to the fracture between 12 cm below the surgical neck of the humerus and 2 cm above the internal and external condyles of the ribs. It was called "bone fracture" in ancient times and is a common fracture in clinical practice.

How to care for humeral fracture? Specifically, do the following:

1. After the fracture is fixed, pay attention to the tightness of the external fixator and the blood circulation of the limb. It is appropriate to move the cloth belt up and down 1 cm on the splint and adjust it in time.

2. The incidence of delayed union or nonunion of humeral shaft fractures is high, second only to tibia. During the treatment process, it is necessary to prevent the fracture ends from separating and shifting due to the hanging weight of the upper limb. Regular X-rays should be taken to check. If separation of the fracture ends is found, press the shoulder with one hand and the elbow with the other.

Gently squeeze along the longitudinal axis, and use elastic bandage to wrap the shoulder and elbow up and down so that the broken ends are squeezed longitudinally and gradually touch each other, and appropriately extend the suspension time until the separation disappears and the fracture heals. If not treated promptly or appropriately, the fracture may heal slowly or not heal.

3. After fixation, you can flex and extend the finger, palm and wrist joints, which is beneficial to the smooth flow of qi and blood. After the swelling begins to subside, the upper arm muscles of the affected limb should be used to perform contraction and relaxation activities to increase the squeezing force between the two fracture ends on the longitudinal axis.

Prevent the separation of the broken ends and keep the fracture site relatively stable; in the middle stage, in addition to continuing the initial exercises, the shoulder and elbow joint activities should be gradually carried out; in the later stage, the shoulder and elbow joint activities should be strengthened to prevent the joints from becoming stiff, and cooperate with drug fumigation to restore joint function as soon as possible.
