How to treat refractive error of the eye

How to treat refractive error of the eye

Nowadays, many patients often suffer from refractive errors. This is a common condition and can be very harmful, so it needs to be adjusted slowly in normal times. The cure rate for patients with refractive errors is still relatively high. There are generally many treatment methods, the most common of which are through training, instruments and medication.

Is the cure rate for mild refractive error high?

Let us first understand refractive error. Refractive error is usually divided into three types: myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. If you want to know whether mild refractive error is easy to treat, you must first know what kind of refractive error you have.

Usually myopic refractive errors can be corrected by wearing moderately concave lenses for mild patients. This treatment method has a very high cure rate, usually up to 98 percent.

Hyperopic refractive error does not require treatment if the vision is normal and there are no subjective symptoms. If you have symptoms of visual fatigue or your vision has been affected, you should wear appropriate convex lenses for correction. In addition to wearing convex lenses for correction, you can also use contact lenses for correction. This type of treatment is also very effective for treating mild refractive errors, with a cure rate of up to 99 percent.

Astigmatic refractive errors generally do not require treatment for mild cases without symptoms. Otherwise, cylindrical lenses should be used for correction. Concave cylindrical lenses can be used for myopic astigmatism, and convex cylindrical lenses can be used for hyperopic astigmatism. This treatment method has a very high cure rate for mild astigmatic refractive errors.

Therefore, the cure rate for mild refractive error is still very high. Once patients find that they have symptoms of refractive error, they must go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible and do not miss the best treatment time.

Is refractive error easy to treat?

Refractive error means that when the eye is not using accommodation, parallel light rays cannot form a clear image on the retina after passing through the eye's refractive effect, but instead form an image in front of or behind the retina. It includes farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism. Treatments for refractive error include:

1: Myopia treatment

Treatment: Mild and moderate myopia can be corrected with moderately concave lenses. People with high myopia often feel that objects are too small, feel dizzy, and have difficulty seeing close objects after wearing glasses. The degree of the glasses should be reduced as appropriate, or contact lenses can be worn. However, the latter can cause a series of corneal complications if not handled properly.

Radial keratotomy: 8 to 16 radial incisions are made in the peripheral part of the cornea (outside the pupil area), which can flatten the center of the cornea, thereby reducing the refractive power of the eye and achieving the purpose of correcting myopia. Generally, it has a good correction effect on 2 to 8D myopia. Its correction effect is related to the incision depth, the number of radial keratome incisions and the size of the retained central transparent area. However, this type of surgery will cause certain damage to the cornea. Improper handling may lead to serious complications such as corneal perforation, endothelial decompensation and infection. In addition, the long-term effects have not yet been fully determined. Therefore, a cautious attitude should be taken towards this surgery at present.

2: Hyperopia treatment

Hyperopia does not require treatment if the vision is normal and there are no symptoms. If you have symptoms of visual fatigue or your vision has been affected, you should wear appropriate convex lenses for correction. Children with higher degrees of hyperopia, especially those with esotropia, should wear glasses as early as possible. As the eyeball develops, children's hyperopia tends to gradually decrease, so they need to have a check-up once a year so that the degree of their glasses can be adjusted at any time. In addition to wearing convex lenses for correction, you can also use contact lenses for correction.

3: Astigmatism Treatment

Generally, mild and asymptomatic cases do not require treatment. Otherwise, cylindrical lenses should be used for correction. Concave cylindrical lenses should be used for myopic astigmatism, and convex cylindrical lenses should be used for hyperopic astigmatism.

Of course, whether refractive error is easy to cure depends on the severity of the patient's condition. Treating refractive error is a long process. If you suffer from refractive error, you should go to a local regular hospital for examination and timely treatment as soon as possible.
