Submandibular lymph node lump

Submandibular lymph node lump

There are lumps on the lymph nodes, which is a type of lymphadenopathy. The causes of lymphadenopathy include lymphadenitis or lymph nodes. Generally, the possibility of developing lymphoma is relatively small and will not cause such great harm. Therefore, everyone should relax their minds and try not to deliberately think that they will definitely have these problems.

Lymph nodes are known as the "body's line of defense." Swollen lymph nodes are the symptoms caused by the lymph nodes helping us resist bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells. Therefore, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can prevent swollen lymph nodes.

Everyone should maintain a good attitude and stable emotions; have healthy eating habits, and eat more fruits and vegetables to improve self-immunity. Keep away from smoke, alcohol, drugs, radiation, pesticides, noise, volatile harmful gases, toxic and harmful heavy metals, etc.

Lymph nodes are one of the important organs in the human body for producing immune responses. A normal person has about 500 to 600 lymph nodes throughout the body, and we can touch the superficial lymph nodes. Therefore, enlargement of superficial lymph nodes is often the main reason why patients come to the hospital for treatment. There are many causes of swollen lymph nodes, lymphoma is only one of them and only accounts for a very small proportion of outpatients. In most cases, swollen lymph nodes may simply be due to pharyngitis. The most common sites for lymph node enlargement are the submandibular area and both sides of the neck, followed by the groin and armpits. When swollen lymph nodes occur, observe the symptoms and see if there are other discomforts in the body to determine the cause and nature. For example, localized lymph node enlargement with obvious pain often indicates infection, while progressive painless enlargement often indicates malignant tumor disease. If necessary, lymph node biopsy can be performed to help confirm the diagnosis.

Three common causes of swollen lymph nodes

1. Lymphadenitis: Pain

Lymphadenitis is the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes, which is often related to infection of nearby tissues and organs, indicating an inflammatory response in the body. Suffering from pharyngitis, periodontitis, rhinitis, otitis media, etc. can cause swollen submandibular or cervical lymph nodes. Generally speaking, infections of the lower limbs can cause swollen inguinal lymph nodes, and infections of the upper limbs can cause swollen axillary lymph nodes. Because lymph nodes are our important peripheral immune organs, when bacteria and viruses flow through the lymph nodes with lymph fluid, they may be phagocytosed or killed by the phagocytes in the lymph nodes. At this time, under the stimulation of antigens such as bacteria, toxins, and foreign bodies, macrophages, lymphocytes, plasma cells, etc. can proliferate rapidly, and the congestion, exudation, and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lymph nodes lead to enlarged lymph nodes.

Lymphadenitis caused by this type of reason is often accompanied by obvious pain in addition to swollen lymph nodes. It can usually be cured quickly after anti-inflammatory treatment in about a week. Some patients can still feel the lymph nodes much more after recovery, but it has no effect on the body.

2. Lymphatic tuberculosis: appears in clusters

Lymphatic tuberculosis is a special chronic infection that causes lymph node enlargement with the following characteristics: over time, multiple lymph nodes will appear arranged in a beaded pattern. In addition, a small number of patients will develop suppuration, and the wounds will be difficult to heal after rupture. If you experience this symptom, you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. If it is confirmed to be lymphadenopathy, you will need to receive anti-tuberculosis treatment, which can usually be cured in half a year to a year.

3. Lymphoma: progressive swelling

Not only does lymphoma have the symptom of "swollen lymph nodes", we also often see the symptom characteristics of "swollen lymph nodes" in the descriptions of other common cancers. Zhao Xianming said that some malignant diseases originate in the lymph nodes, such as lymphoma, lymphocytic leukemia, and malignant histiocytosis. Some tumors may metastasize to lymph nodes, such as lung cancer, stomach cancer and breast cancer.
