Ingredients of Zhibai Dihuang Wan

Zhibai Dihuang Wan mainly has the effect of promoting the production of body fluids and quenching thirst. It is classified as pharmaceutical, maintenance/traditional Chinese medicine prescription/internal medicine. Zhibai Dihuang Wan is based on the original formula of "Buyin Bawei Wan" in "Jingyue Quanshu" by Zhang Jingyue, a famous scientist in the Ming Dynasty. Zhibai Dihuang Wan is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription. Its original name is Buyin Bawei Wan, which is made of Liuwei Dihuang Wan with Zhimu and Huangbai. 40g of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, 40g of Phellodendron chinense, 160g of Rehmannia glutinosa, 80g of Cornus officinalis (processed), 60g of Paeonia suffruticosa, 80g of Dioscorea opposita, 60g of Coix seed, and 60g of Alisma orientalis. It is used to treat symptoms such as yang deficiency, excessive fire, dampness and heat in the lower abdomen. This recipe changes the pills into a soup, which is called Bu Yin Bawei Jian. Chinese yam (4 liang), moutan bark (3 liang), white poria (3 liang), cornus officinalis (meat, 4 liang), oriental water chestnut (3 liang), phellodendron (fried in salt water, 3 liang), rehmannia (8 liang, steamed and pounded), anemarrhena (fried in salt water, 3 liang).

Therefore, its four main ingredients each play an irreplaceable role:

· Anemarrhena asphodeloides--clears away heat and dampness, promotes the production of body fluids and quenches thirst. It is used for wind-cold-heat syndrome caused by external factors, high fever, thirst without appetite, lung heat and dry cough, bone steaming and hot flashes, quenching thirst due to internal fire, and dry intestinal constipation.

· Huangbai -- clears away heat, detoxifies and eliminates dampness, removes fire and steam, removes toxins and treats sores. It is used for diarrhea caused by cold and dampness, jaundice, loose stools, gonorrhea, beriberi, paralysis, bone steaming and fatigue fever, night sweats, frequent spermatorrhea, sores, swelling and pus, and itchy eczema. Salt and Phellodendron chinense can promote salivation and quench thirst. It is used for yin deficiency, hyperactivity of fire, night sweats and bone steaming.

·Rehmannia glutinosa--tonifies yin, blood, and qi, and replenishes the kidney and marrow. It is used for kidney deficiency, sore waist and weak legs, bone steaming, hot flashes, night sweats and spermatorrhea. It can quench thirst due to internal heat, treat sallow appearance due to deficiency of both Qi and blood, palpitations, irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia, dizziness, tinnitus and premature graying of hair.

Cornus officinalis-warms the spleen and kidneys, astringes semen and lifts sunken organs. It is used to treat dizziness, tinnitus, soreness of waist and knees, impotence, frequent spermatorrhea, bed-wetting, frequent urination and urgency, metrorrhagia, leukorrhea, sweating, physical exhaustion, and quenching thirst due to internal heat.

Peony bark-clears heat and cools blood, promotes blood circulation and removes stasis. It is used to treat rashes caused by warm toxins, vomiting blood and blood stains, night heat and morning coolness, no sweat and bone steaming, liver depression and kidney deficiency, menstrual pain, carbuncles, sores, and pain from falls.

Zhibai Dihuang Wan is a medicine made by adding Liuwei Dihuang Wan, which is used to replenish liver and kidney yin, and Zhimu and Huangbai, which are used to clear heat. Anemarrhena asphodeloides is good at clearing lung heat and reducing stomach fire, while Phellodendron chinense is often used as a panacea for clearing and purging lower burner fire, and is commonly seen in gallbladder, liver and large intestine damp-heat syndrome.
