What is the optimal air humidity?

Many people have not paid attention to the air humidity. Not all environments are suitable for human survival. Generally speaking, the air humidity is between 40% and 60%, which makes people feel relatively comfortable. If the air is too dry, it may cause some respiratory problems. Too high humidity can also make people feel uncomfortable, so it is important to ensure the right amount of water. You should drink eight glasses of water on a regular basis, which is very helpful for your body.

Relative humidity of air refers to the ratio of the vapor pressure of water in the air to the saturated vapor pressure of water at the same temperature and pressure. The ratio of the absolute humidity of moist air to the maximum absolute humidity that can be achieved at the same temperature. It can also be expressed as the ratio of the partial pressure of water vapor in moist air to the saturated pressure of water at the same temperature.

There is no functional relationship between the two physical quantities of absolute air humidity and relative air humidity. For example, the higher the temperature, the faster water evaporates, so the amount of water vapor in the air increases accordingly.

Therefore, during the day, the absolute humidity at noon is often higher than at night. In a year, the absolute humidity in summer is higher than that in winter. However, since the saturated water vapor pressure of the air also changes with temperature, it is possible that the relative humidity at noon is lower than that at night, and the relative humidity in winter is higher than that in summer. Since the saturated water vapor pressure at a certain temperature can be found in the "Saturated Water Vapor Pressure at Different Temperatures" table, as long as you know the current temperature and calculate the current water vapor pressure in the air, you can find out the relative humidity of the air.

Due to the low relative humidity, a large amount of water is lost from the human epidermis, which leads to decreased skin elasticity, accelerated skin aging, rough epidermis, cell shedding and other phenomena, which to a certain extent reduces the skin's ability to resist bacteria.

The humidity that the human body feels more comfortable is 40%-60%. When the humidity in the air reaches 55%, it is more difficult for germs in the air to spread. However, once the air humidity exceeds 65%, people will feel chest tightness and difficulty breathing. If it exceeds 90%, it will cause discomfort to the human respiratory system and mucous membranes, which is especially harmful to the elderly, and may induce influenza, asthma, bronchitis and other diseases in the elderly. Therefore, when choosing a humidifier and an air purifier with a humidification function, you should pay special attention to the humidification function of the machine. Avoid over-humidification.
