All symptoms of a fall on the back of the head

In daily life, if you fall without paying attention and your back of the head hits the ground, it will often cause concussion. Generally, if it is more serious, it will cause nausea, vomiting, headache, and tinnitus. Of course, more serious cases may even cause coma and blurred vision. These are all common symptoms. At this time, you must go to the hospital for examination in time.

All symptoms of a fall on the back of the head

1. Transient brainstem symptoms : Impairment of consciousness occurs immediately after trauma to the head, manifested as confusion or complete coma, lasting for several seconds, minutes or tens of minutes, but generally not more than half an hour. The patient may also have symptoms such as pale complexion, sweating, decreased blood pressure, bradycardia, shallow and slow breathing, decreased muscle tone, and sluggish or absent various physiological reflexes. In most patients with reversible mild concussion, the central nervous system function recovers rapidly from bottom to top, from the cervical spinal cord-medulla oblongata-brainstem to the cerebral cortex. In the case of irreversible severe concussion, it is very likely that a top-down inhibition process occurs, causing the functions of the respiratory and circulatory centers of the medulla oblongata to be interrupted for too long, leading to death.

2. Retrograde amnesia: After regaining consciousness, patients with recent memory loss cannot recall the situation at the time of injury or even a period of time before the injury. The more severe the concussion and the longer the primary coma, the more obvious the recent memory loss phenomenon is. However, they can recall distant memories of the past, which may be related to damage to the hippocampus.

What should parents do after their baby falls?

1. Don't be hasty to pick up the baby from the ground, and don't move too violently to avoid causing other unnecessary injuries.

2. If the baby can cry immediately after falling, the possibility of brain injury is generally small. Babies are most afraid of falling on the back of their heads. If they fall face down, the danger is generally smaller and only external injuries can be treated.

3. When the baby falls and hits his head, you should go to the hospital immediately in the following situations: there is hemorrhagic trauma to the head; the baby does not cry after the fall, and appears to be unconscious, semi-comatose and drowsy; within two days after the fall, there is repeated vomiting, excessive sleep, poor spirits or severe crying; within two days after the fall, there is bleeding or water in the nose or ears. Generally, if you fall and cause severe concussion or intracranial hemorrhage, the symptoms will appear quickly, at the latest within 24 hours. If you have symptoms, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible.

4. For a period of time after the baby falls, try to talk to the baby and tease him to divert his excitement, and do not hold him to sleep. If the baby falls asleep soon after crying after falling, wake him up within an hour. If he wakes up crying, then there is no problem.

5. Even if you fall on your head, don't always suspect that you have a concussion. A concussion is characterized by a period of loss of consciousness and awareness. If the baby remains conscious, there will be no problem. If a baby vomits, it may be due to being frightened or having a temporary brain concussion. The former usually recovers after vomiting two or three times, which is different from a concussion. Even if it is a concussion, if it is mild, there will be no sequelae.
