What is big toe pain?

What is big toe pain?
Toe pain is a common phenomenon. It may be caused by wearing inappropriate shoes, long-term grinding of the toes, or some diseases, such as gout. If it is caused by gout, patients must be very careful and seek timely treatment. Otherwise, if the condition worsens, it won’t just be your toes that will be affected!

1. Causes

The most important biochemical basis of gout is hyperuricemia. A normal adult produces about 750 mg of uric acid per day, of which 80% is endogenous and 20% is exogenous. This uric acid enters the uric acid metabolic pool (about 1200 mg). About 60% of the uric acid in the metabolic pool is metabolized daily, of which 1/3, about 200 mg, is metabolized through the intestines and 2/3, about 400 mg, is excreted through the kidneys, thus maintaining the stability of uric acid levels in the body. Problems in any link can lead to hyperuricemia.

2. Symptoms of gout attack

The most common symptom of gout is foot pain. The main reason for toe pain caused by gout is that the insufficient activity of the enzyme responsible for breaking down uric acid in the body causes uric acid to accumulate in the body and precipitate in the joints, soft tissues, etc.

Most toe joint pain is caused by gout. The symptoms of gout in the foot often first appear in the big toe. The disease often occurs acutely at night, with redness, swelling, heat and pain in the joints. The pain is severe and reaches its peak within 24-48 hours. It is relieved within a week and often stops.

When the patient's gout symptoms develop to the chronic stage, symptoms such as chronic arthritis, tophi, gouty nephritis, uric acid stones, and other complications will appear. Frequent attacks of gout symptoms will cause serious pain to the patient. As the disease continues to progress, the patient's tophi will continue to grow.

3. Precautions for toe gout

Control calorie intake, exercise appropriately, and prevent obesity, high blood pressure, high blood lipids and diabetes.

Limit high-purine foods such as sardines, animal offal, etc., eat more alkaline foods such as vegetables and fruits, and drink more water.

Avoid overeating, alcoholism, infection, trauma, fatigue, cold and other inducements.

Go to a regular hospital for targeted treatment, check blood uric acid regularly, and maintain its normal level.
