What are the symptoms of baby's intestinal gas

Every newborn is a gift from God to its mother. Once a new mother finds that there is something wrong with her baby, she will become extremely anxious and worried. Intestinal flatulence is a common symptom in babies caused by physical reasons. It may be caused by being too impatient when feeding or by lying down too quickly after feeding. So what is intestinal gas? How to quickly identify intestinal gas?

The gastrointestinal tract of infants is immature, which causes uncoordinated intestinal motility at different stages of the baby's life and causes intestinal bloating - the stomach makes gurgling sounds, the baby passes gas and farts a lot, and the baby cries frequently for unknown reasons. This phenomenon is medically called infant colic.

Neonatal colic is characterized by intermittent crying, a condition that is similar to intussusception. The difference is that newborns with colic will not vomit or pass bloody mucus in their stools (as will happen with intussusception). Symptoms of neonatal colic are common symptoms such as sudden screaming, sometimes crying at the top of one's voice, even crying until the face turns red and the neck becomes thick. Some newborns also have shaking heads, arched bodies, and slightly rapid breathing; at the same time, the abdomen is often swollen, the palms are clenched into fists, and the feet are even or bent.

A well-nourished healthy baby may begin to show symptoms 2 to 3 weeks after birth, and gradually improve after 3 to 4 months (some may be later). We can understand that infantile colic is not a disease that requires special attention, but rather a problem in the baby's development. However, there are some reasons that can cause the baby's flatulence to occur frequently or more severely. Parents can address the causes and solve the problems accordingly to alleviate the discomfort.

reason:

Reason 1: The baby's body is not fully developed, and he eats too fast, or as his food intake increases, the gastrointestinal burden increases, and the peristalsis slows down, causing bloating;

Solution: When feeding your baby, do not feed too much at a single time, and do it gradually. Babies grow and develop quickly, and their demand for milk is also fast. If the baby is exclusively breastfed, you can feed him in small amounts and multiple times. For babies who drink milk powder, it is important to increase the amount of milk gradually.

Reason 2: The mother eats indigestible food and breastfeeding will increase the baby's chance of bloating

Solution: During the breastfeeding period when the baby’s stomach is sensitive, mothers should pay attention to a healthy diet. Try to eat less foods that are difficult to digest, such as glutinous rice, beans and bean products, sweet potatoes, etc.

Reason 3 : The baby eats quickly and swallows a lot of air without expelling it

Solution: For babies who are breastfed, try to let the baby take the entire areola into his mouth, which can reduce the inhalation of air; for babies who are fed with milk powder, the nipple of the bottle should be suitable for the month, not too big or too small, and there are also some special bottles that prevent swallowing of air. In short, try to reduce the amount of air your baby swallows.

Burping is necessary after feeding. (Specific method: Hold the baby upright, pay attention to protecting the back and neck with one hand, and use the other hand to pat the baby's back gently. Try to pat until the baby hiccups. This will help the baby expel the air inhaled when feeding.)
