Pulling out a strip of material after defecation

Pulling out a strip of material after defecation

The strips of matter that can be pulled out after defecation are most likely roundworms. Ascaris is the largest parasite in the human intestine. Children in rural areas are more susceptible to the disease. It is shaped like an earthworm. Children may not have any symptoms if they have roundworms in their bodies. However, if the condition is serious, they may experience symptoms such as loss of appetite and abdominal pain around the navel. If it is confirmed to be roundworms, it is necessary to seek timely treatment, as they will not be excreted from the body with the feces.

External appearance

The body is cylindrical, gradually tapering towards both ends, milky white all over, with a distinct lateral line. The female is 20-35cm long, the male is 15-30cm long, and 5mm in diameter. The male is short and thin, with a hooked tail. The front end is the mouth, which has three lips, one dorsal lip with two pairs of papillae, and two ventral lips, each with a pair of papillae (double papillae) and a lateral papillae (lateral papillae). There is a very small excretory hole on the ventral midline slightly behind the mouth. The anus is located on the midline ventral to the posterior end of the body. The female genital pore is small and located on the ventral midline about 1/3 of the front end of the body. The male genital opening and anus are combined into a single hole called the genital opening, from which a pair of spicules extend.

Preventive health care should take comprehensive measures to prevent and treat ascariasis. It includes checking and treating patients and carriers, handling feces, managing water sources and preventing infection. Strengthen publicity and education, popularize health knowledge, pay attention to food hygiene and personal hygiene, wash hands before meals and after defecation, do not eat unwashed vegetables and fruits, do not drink raw water, prevent ingestion of roundworm eggs, and reduce the chance of infection. Using harmless human feces as fertilizer and preventing feces from polluting the environment are important measures to cut off the transmission routes of roundworms.

In areas where water-based manure is used as fertilizer, the five-grid, three-pond manure storage method can be adopted to allow most of the worm eggs in the manure to settle to the bottom of the pond. Due to the action of free ammonia in the manure and anaerobic fermentation, insect eggs can be killed and the fertilizer efficiency will also be increased. Using biogas digesters for fermentation can not only solve farmers' lighting and cooking needs, but also facilitate the harmless treatment of feces. The feces residue can be removed once every six months or so. At this point, most of the eggs have lost their ability to infect. In areas where manure is used as fertilizer, mud composting can be used. After three days, the temperature in the manure pile can rise to 52°C or higher, which can kill roundworm eggs.

Deworming treatment for patients and carriers is an important measure to control the source of infection. Deworming treatment can not only reduce the infection rate and the source of infection, but also improve the health of children. The best time for deworming is in the autumn and winter after the peak of infection, and school-age children can take medication collectively. Due to the possibility of reinfection, it is best to deworm every 3 to 4 months. Patients with complications should be sent to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time. They should not take medication on their own to avoid delaying the treatment. Commonly used anthelmintics include albendazole, mebendazole, levamisole and piperazine citric acid (trade name: Ascaris), etc. They have good anthelmintic effects and few side effects.
