What is the cause of hypertrophic pharyngitis?

What is the cause of hypertrophic pharyngitis?

Hypertrophic pharyngitis occurs very often, and is often a secondary disease of chronic simple pharyngitis. It usually manifests itself as hyperplasia of pharyngeal lymphoid tissue and submucosal nodules. It can also easily lead to a decrease in pharyngeal resistance and cause more pharyngitis diseases.

1. Cause

It is often a secondary disease of chronic simple pharyngitis, mostly caused by upper respiratory tract infection or repeated attacks of acute pharyngitis, or rhinitis, sinusitis, irritation of the pharynx after thick nasal discharge, etc. Excessive smoking and drinking, stimulation from dust, harmful gases, and occupational factors are all causes of the disease.

2. Features

The pathological characteristics of hypertrophic pharyngitis are the proliferation of pharyngeal lymphoid tissue and submucosal connective tissue, and even invasion of pharyngeal muscles. Examination showed that the pharyngeal mucosa was thickened and dark red, the small blood vessels were dilated, the palatine arch and the edge of the soft palate were hypertrophic, the pharyngeal cavity was narrow, and the hyperplastic lymphoid follicles on the posterior pharyngeal wall were scattered and granular protrusions. Or they may fuse with each other to form red mass tissue that protrudes from the mucosal surface. The nasopharynx usually has residual proliferative bodies, and the pharyngeal mucosa is congested and hypertrophic.

3. Treatment

60 patients with chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis were treated with microwave therapy and ultrasonic atomization, and the clinical analysis was summarized. Among the 60 cases, there were 17 males and 43 females, aged 45-82 years, and disease duration of 1-20 years. In clinical practice, patients were randomly divided into two groups for comparison of efficacy. One group of 30 cases was treated with microwave therapy, and the other group of 30 cases was treated with ultrasonic atomization, supplemented by drug therapy. The treatment time for both groups was once a day, 20 minutes each time, 10 days as a course of treatment, one course of treatment to determine the efficacy, and two courses of treatment to evaluate the efficacy. The main test items are whether the pharyngeal symptoms are alleviated and whether the hypertrophic tissue in the pharynx disappears during physical examination.

Generally speaking, after two courses of microwave therapy for chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis, the cure rate is 60%, the significant effectiveness is 37.5%, the effective rate is 10%, the ineffective rate is 3.33%, and the total effective rate is 96.7%. After two courses of ultrasonic atomization treatment for chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis, the cure rate was 20%, the significant efficacy was 13.33%, the effective rate was 6.67%, the ineffective rate was 60%, and the total effective rate was 40%.
