I feel pain in my left chest when I breathe.

You may feel chest pain when breathing, and have symptoms similar to a stitch in the side. It is possible that the pain in the chest may occur suddenly due to lack of warm-up during intense exercise. You may also have diseases such as pneumothorax. You need to check the stage when the breathing pain occurs and what you did before the onset of the disease.

Most of the stitches in the side seen in clinical practice are due to sudden pain in the chest and ribs during sports, such as running and playing ball, and may also manifest as pain in the lower abdomen.

The cause of this symptom is mostly due to the lack of warm-up before strenuous activity, or the warm-up is not sufficient. During strenuous exercise, muscles suddenly enter a state of tension, causing hypoxia and spasm. Or if you fail to adjust your breathing during strenuous exercise, causing spasms in your respiratory muscles, it can also lead to side stitches.

Of course, this type of stitch in the side is not the same as pneumothorax. Therefore, when a stitch in the side occurs, the symptoms will naturally be relieved after a period of rest or after stopping exercise. Some people can also speed up the relief of the stitch in the side through local massage and slow adjustment of breathing.

Patients with stitches in the side seen in clinical practice have basically no redness, swelling, or obvious tenderness on the outside. It is just a simple description of chest and rib pain, but the pain is not fixed in one place and is scattered over a relatively large area, especially when taking a deep breath, coughing or turning the limbs, which can cause local pain or communication. The nature of the pain is mostly manifested as a tingling or pressure sensation. The main muscles that cause this symptom should be the intercostal muscles and diaphragm.

If the spasm occurs in the intercostal muscles, it will manifest as pain and discomfort on both sides or one side of the chest. When the spasm occurs in the diaphragm, it will manifest as pain under the ribs on both sides.

Most of these patients have a history of significant strenuous exercise, so clinical diagnosis is not particularly difficult.

So in clinical practice, if a side stitch reaction occurs. It is recommended that you stop exercising and take a rest. Gently tap his back and waist with the palm of your hand. You can also apply hot compresses to the chest and ribs. If the symptoms are not effectively relieved, you can go to the hospital to see a doctor for treatment. Of course, massage and acupuncture should be an option for treatment.
