The difference between Cyperus rotundus and Cyperus rotundus

This product is a commonly used Chinese medicine. It was first recorded in "Ming Yi Bie Lu" and listed as a medium-grade product. Its original name was "cyperus" and it was not until "Tang Materia Medica" that it was called "cyperus root cyperus rotundus" because its roots are attached to each other and can be used to make spices.

Other names: Cyperus rotundus, sedge root.

Source: The dried tuber of sedge, a perennial woody plant of the Cyperaceae family. It is mostly found naturally in sandy lands in the sea, rivers and streams.

Origin: The main producing areas are Shandong Province, Hunan Province, Hubei Province, Zhejiang Province, Henan Province, Hebei Province, and it is produced in most parts of the country.

Characteristic identification: The underground stem is slightly spindle-shaped and varies in size; about 1.5 to 3 cm long and 0.5 to 1 cm in diameter. The surface is dark brown. All of them have most of the stage patterns, dark brown hairs and residual root marks (the one with hairs is called hairy cyperus, the one without hairs is called smooth cyperus, and the one without the epidermis is called rice cyperus).

The texture is hard, the broken surface after steaming is shiny and purple in color, while the directly dried one is white and powdery. There is a clear gradation between the epidermis and the center point, the center color is slightly darker, and there are gray-black spotted conductive tissues scattered around. It has a fragrant aroma and a bitter taste. The best ones are those with large grains, purple-red color, bright and smooth texture, firm texture and strong fragrance.

Main ingredients: Contains volatile oils, the main ones of which are cyperus rotundus, cyperus rotundus alcohol, and oleic acid, etc.

Functions and effects: Promotes qi circulation, relieves depression, regulates menstruation and relieves pain. There is still insufficient scientific research on its medicinal value. Modern experiments have basically found that: 1. Analgesic effect. The alcohol extract of Cyperus rotundus can significantly increase the pain threshold of experimental animals (rat).
