What medicine is effective for adenoids?

Adenoids hypertrophy is also called pharyngeal tonsils or adenoids. It is located at the top of the nasopharynx, on the posterior wall of the pharynx. It belongs to lymphoid tissue. If hypertrophy occurs, it proves that there is infection and hyperplasia. It is mainly caused by long-term chronic inflammation. More serious cases can cause breathing difficulties and easy to cause sleep disturbances, etc. For milder cases, it can be controlled by medication, such as nasal hormones, which have a certain therapeutic effect.

What medicine is effective for adenoids?

Routine outpatient clinics will perform fiberoptic nasopharyngeal endoscopy to determine the extent to which the enlarged adenoids are blocking the nostrils. I personally think that if the adenoids occupy less than 70% of the nostrils, conservative treatment can be chosen first to control the inflammation and allergies and keep the child's nasal cavity unobstructed. Also, if the child's AHI index is mild (1-5) after sleep monitoring, and the parents do not advocate surgery, conservative treatment can be adopted to observe.

The most commonly used conservative treatments in clinical practice are local nasal spray hormones (Nasonex or budesonide), antihistamines and montelukast. These drugs can reduce nasal mucosal edema and eliminate local adenoid edema. After using these two medicines together for 2 weeks to one month, observe the child's snoring, runny nose and other clinical symptoms to see whether they are relieved.

Drug treatment for adenoids hypertrophy relieves clinical symptoms by alleviating local inflammation, reducing secretions, and eliminating local edema. In other words, it reduces the stimulation of inflammation on adenoid tissue, thereby reducing the size of the adenoid tissue. Therefore, after improving or alleviating the symptoms caused by adenoids hypertrophy through drug treatment, preventing the recurrence of local inflammation is the key to ensuring the effectiveness of treatment.

What is adenoids hypertrophy

Adenoids, also called pharyngeal tonsils or adenoids, are located at the top of the nasopharynx and the posterior wall of the pharynx. They belong to lymphoid tissue and have an orange-segment-like surface. Like tonsils, adenoids gradually grow larger with age after birth. They proliferate most rapidly between the ages of 2 and 6 and gradually shrink after the age of 10. Adenoids hypertrophy is a pathological proliferation of the adenoids due to repeated stimulation of inflammation, which causes symptoms such as nasal congestion and mouth breathing, especially at night, and causes snoring and restless sleep. Children often turn over from time to time, which is more obvious when lying on their backs. In severe cases, sleep apnea may occur. This disease is most common in children and is often associated with chronic tonsillitis and tonsil hypertrophy.
