Why are my calves and feet numb?

In our daily lives, we often encounter numbness in our legs and feet, and many people have this feeling. Numbness in the calves and feet is caused by our lack of good habits. For example, some friends who work at work spend several hours at work, or in the summer, we use air conditioning at home, which may cause numbness in the legs and feet. If the condition is serious, we need to go to the hospital for treatment. In our daily life, we should develop good work and rest habits, eating habits, eat more light food, drink more water, and keep warm.

There are generally four reasons for numbness in the calves and feet:

First, people with diabetes may experience numbness in their hands and feet. If any part of the body is often numb, sore, or swollen, check your blood sugar in time.

The second is numbness caused by drugs or chemicals. For example, when you have a cold or diarrhea, taking berberine or furazolidone will cause numbness in your hands and feet;

If you stay in such an environment for a long time, you may experience numbness in your hands and feet.

The third is numbness caused by neuritis. The most common symptoms of neuritis are numbness of hands and feet, muscle atrophy, and weakness of limbs. If you have diarrhea or a cold for half a month, it will cause neuritis.

Fourth, the limbs are numb in a scattered manner. The limbs are not numb at the same time, but in a scattered manner. This is because the local nerves are stimulated, such as a stroke after being drunk, stimulation of the head nerves caused by coma, stimulation of the hand nerves by the elderly with crutches, numbness of the upper limbs caused by cervical spondylosis, and numbness of the legs caused by stimulation of the lumbar shoulder nerves.

Numbness in the hands and feet cannot be treated symptomatically, but the cause must be treated. No matter what causes numbness in the hands and feet, you should first go to the hospital's neurology department for examination to determine whether the nerves are damaged and what kind of stimulation they have received.

If it is a nerve problem, an electromyography examination is required to further confirm the degree, range, and nature of nerve damage. If the numbness of hands and feet is caused by other reasons, then transfer to other related departments for treatment.

Numbness of hands and feet caused by nerve damage should be treated with medication or surgery according to the degree, scope and nature of the nerve damage. Medication is usually combined with acupuncture and physical therapy to promote rapid recovery. Surgical treatment is to remove the compressed nerves through surgery to relieve the compression and stimulation of the nerves.

The degree of recovery depends mainly on the cause and nature of the neuropathy. If it is peripheral nerve damage (nerves other than the brain and spinal cord), the recovery time is generally longer.
