The impact of parents' drug abuse on their children

The impact of parents' drug abuse on their children

It takes about forty weeks for a fetus to be born successfully in the mother's womb, and during these forty weeks, every move of the mother will affect the fetus. Therefore, pregnant women should have a reasonable diet, a regular schedule, and should not eat unhealthy foods. However, some parents do not care that if the mother takes drugs while pregnant, it will cause fatal harm to the fetus. You know, parents' drug abuse has a great impact on their children.

Intrauterine growth retardation is also called placental dysfunction syndrome or fetal malnutrition syndrome. The causes of intrauterine growth retardation in many fetuses are unknown. It is generally believed to be related to genetic factors, infectious diseases of pregnant women during early pregnancy, placental and vascular factors, multiple pregnancies, and maternal nutritional factors and living environment factors.

From the perspective of pregnant women, it is related to their height, weight, age, and parity during pregnancy. At the same time, 40% of the difference in fetal weight comes from parental genetic factors, with the mother's genetic influence being greater. Malnutrition of pregnant women, especially lack of protein and energy, is an important factor affecting fetal growth. Lack of trace elements and vitamins affects fetal development. For example, zinc deficiency can affect the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins, reduce the total area of placental villi, and affect fetal development. When suffering from chronic vascular diseases: such as gestational hypertension affecting uterine placental blood flow and its function, the fetus suffers from intrauterine growth retardation due to long-term ischemia and malnutrition. In addition, severe anemia, multiple pregnancy, severe heart disease, prenatal bleeding, diabetes, etc. can cause fetal growth retardation. When smoking (actively or passively), drinking alcohol, or taking drugs, harmful substances can reduce the number of placental blood vessels and damage the endothelium; nicotine can also cause nerve endings to release catecholamines, stimulate uterine contractions, and reduce blood supply. When carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin, it can hinder the transport of oxygen and cause tissue hypoxia. Make the fetus smaller.

From the perspective of the fetus, the most important factor that promotes fetal growth and development is the acquisition and utilization of nutrients. If the fetus itself has developmental defects, resulting in insufficient growth hormone and insulin, then fetal growth and development will be inhibited. When the fetus is infected in the uterus, such as rubella virus, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis, etc., the placenta is infected through the bloodstream and the placental villi function is impaired. In addition, chromosomal abnormalities can damage the early embryo or fetus, limit the fetus's growth ability and cause fetal developmental delay.

When there are abnormalities in the placenta and umbilical cord, such as placental inflammation, the umbilical cord is too thin, twisted, true nodule, etc. The blood flow to the uterus and placenta is reduced, and the fetus cannot get enough nutrients and oxygen and cannot develop.

Knowing the reasons why the fetus is small, we should try to avoid these adverse factors during pregnancy. If fetal effects are found, seek medical supervision and treatment as soon as possible.
