Why is the newborn's belly button bulging?

We all know that when the fetus is in the mother's body, it communicates with the mother through the umbilical cord, and also breathes and absorbs food through the umbilical cord. After the fetus is delivered, the doctor will cut the umbilical cord connecting the fetus to the mother, and the fetus will cry. However, many newborns have bulging belly buttons when they are born. So what is going on with the bulging belly buttons of newborns?

Bulging above the belly button is a common phenomenon in many newborns. In fact, this may be what we call umbilical hernia in medicine. It is a problem that babies can easily have, but usually the umbilical hernia of a child will heal naturally within one year old.

1. The baby's belly button is bulging, which is medically called umbilical hernia. When the baby coughs or cries, causing the intra-abdominal pressure to increase, a protruding spherical or hemispherical mass will appear in the umbilicus. This lump is caused by the developmental defects of the abdominal wall muscles and aponeurosis left over in the umbilicus, which causes the peritoneum and other tissues to protrude outward from the umbilical ring and form a hernia. If you press it gently with your hand, it can return to the abdominal cavity.

2. Generally, umbilical hernia in children can heal naturally within 1 year old. If your baby is still like this after being over 6 months old, you should take some simple measures at home to speed up the healing of umbilical hernia.

3. Use a coin (put a piece of soft cloth on the skin first) or the convex surface of half a ping-pong ball to press the belly button and fix it so that the belly button no longer protrudes, which can speed up its healing.

4. Cut two strips of 4 cm wide tape into traction tapes, cut off one-third of each side of one end of one tape, and let it pass through the hole cut on the other tape. Before sticking the tape, apply some tincture of benzoic acid on the skin to protect the skin, then stick the tape on both sides of the navel, and then pull the two strips of tape tightly together and change them every half a month. The purpose of doing this is to make the navel sink and close the defect of the umbilical hernia to facilitate the healing of the umbilical hernia. This method usually takes about 3 months to be effective.

If the umbilical hernia does not improve after using these two methods, you should go to the hospital for treatment.
