Symptoms of stomach upset

Symptoms of stomach upset

Gastric prolapse is also called gastroptosis. It is mainly caused by insufficient diaphragm strength in the stomach, which will cause the supporting ligaments to relax and cause symptoms of gastroptosis. When patients have gastroptosis, they often experience abdominal distension, discomfort in the upper abdomen, symptoms of oppression, and persistent dull pain, especially after meals. In more serious cases, it can cause nausea, vomiting, constipation and other symptoms.

Symptoms of stomach upset

People with mild sagging generally have no symptoms, while those with obvious sagging may experience the following symptoms: 1. Abdominal distension and upper abdominal discomfort. Patients often report a feeling of fullness, heaviness, and pressure in the abdomen. 2. Abdominal pain is mostly persistent dull pain. It often occurs after meals and is related to food intake. The more you eat, the longer the pain lasts and the more severe the pain is. At the same time, pain is related to activity, and activity after meals often makes the pain worse.

3. Nausea and vomiting often occur after meals or during activities, especially when eating too much. This is because taking in a large amount of food at one time increases the traction of the stomach wall ligaments and causes pain, followed by nausea and vomiting. 4. Constipation Constipation is often stubborn and may be caused by the sagging of the transverse colon, which causes the hepatic flexure and splenic flexure of the colon to form an acute angle, resulting in slow passage. 5. Neuropsychiatric symptoms: Due to the various symptoms of gastroptosis, patients are tortured for a long time, which puts too much mental burden on them, resulting in neuropsychiatric symptoms such as insomnia, headache, dizziness, dullness, and depression. Symptoms may also include hypotension, palpitations, and syncope upon standing.

Differential Diagnosis

1. Acute gastric dilatation Acute gastric dilatation often occurs within a few hours to one or two days after trauma, anesthesia and surgery, or shortly after a full meal. The patient feels upper abdominal distension or persistent pain, followed by vomiting, mainly of gastric contents in small amounts, but the attacks are frequent. Although vomiting occurs, the abdominal distension does not decrease. X-ray abdominal films can show the enlarged stomach with saturated and dense food residue shadows, and taking a small amount of barium can show the dilated stomach shape. 2. Gastric retention Gastric retention is mostly caused by lack of gastric tone. In addition, gastric motility disorders caused by gastric or other abdominal surgery, central nervous system diseases, neuropathy caused by diabetes, and vagotomy can all cause this disease. Gastroptosis should be differentiated from peptic ulcer, chronic gastritis, chronic hepatitis, gastric neurosis, chronic cholecystitis, gastric cancer, gastric dilatation, pyloric obstruction and other diseases.
