Mild facial paralysis

Mild facial paralysis

Facial paralysis is a relatively common disease, which is often related to cold and facial nerve infection. Especially in the summer, air conditioning can easily lead to the occurrence of facial paralysis. If the symptoms of facial paralysis are relatively mild, then good care can be strengthened at this time to generally achieve a certain degree of recovery. There are also many symptoms of mild facial paralysis, such as eyelid tremors, blinking movements, etc.

Mild facial paralysis

1. Eyelid tremor phenomenon:

It is a common symptom of mild facial paralysis. The patient closes both eyes forcefully, and the examiner pulls the upper eyelids open with force. At this time, a slight muscle contracture and tremor may be felt on one side of the upper eyelid, but not on the other side. The existence of this phenomenon indicates mild facial nerve paralysis, which is more common in peripheral facial nerve paralysis.

2. Blinking movement:

Carefully observe the patient's blinking behavior. Symptoms of mild facial paralysis can be seen as asymmetric blinking movements on both sides, which is a significant phenomenon. If the patient is asked to blink, the blinking movement will be slow and incomplete on the mildly paralyzed side.

3. Oblique oval mouth sign:

Ask the patient to open his mouth wide. When there is mild facial nerve paralysis, the corner of the mouth on the affected side droops and becomes an oblique oval shape, which is also a symptom of mild facial paralysis. The difference between the oblique oval mouth caused by trigeminal nerve motor branch paralysis and the oval mouth caused by trigeminal nerve motor branch paralysis is that there is no mandibular deviation. This sign is not obvious in central facial nerve paralysis.

4. Eyelash sign:

Ask the patient to close his eyes forcefully. When a normal person closes his eyes forcefully, his eyelashes are mostly buried between the upper and lower eyelids. When the facial nerve is paralyzed, the eyelashes are exposed, especially in the case of mild paralysis. If you close your eyes tightly, the asymmetry of the eyelashes is not obvious at first, but after a short period of time, the eyelashes on the mildly paralyzed side will slowly become visible. This is called a positive eyelash sign. This is a common symptom of mild facial paralysis.

Patients with facial paralysis should pay attention to prevention, maintain a good spirit, ensure proper sleep and rest, avoid being attacked by cold wind at night. Once they are sick, they should pay attention to protection, wear a mask when going out in cold weather, and wear an eye mask when their eyes cannot close well to prevent corneal injury.
