3 Genital warts are prone to occur in the moist areas of the skin and mucous membranes of the external genitalia and near the anus, such as the female vulva, cervix, vagina, and urethral orifice. They are initially millet-sized, light red growths, which gradually increase in size and number and become soft. They may be nipple-shaped, mushroom-shaped, or cauliflower-shaped protrusions. Large warts are prone to secondary infection, erosion, suppuration, bleeding, foul odor, and itching or pain.
