What to do if your 1-year-old baby has diarrhea and vomiting

When babies are young, their resistance is relatively weak. If you are not careful about their diet, they will have diarrhea and vomiting, which really makes the mother worry. Therefore, when the mother finds that the baby is unwell, she needs to be at the side to watch over the baby and take some effective measures to relieve the baby's discomfort and restore the baby to health as soon as possible. So what should you do when your one-year-old baby has diarrhea and vomits?

1. Replenish the body's lost water as soon as possible: Many mothers rush to the hospital as soon as their baby has diarrhea. In fact, when babies first start to have diarrhea, they are usually mildly dehydrated. As long as it is under the guidance of a doctor, treatment can be carried out at home. Mommy can choose one of the following methods of rehydration: rehydration with homemade sugar and salt water, that is, add 1.75 grams of refined salt and 10 grams of white sugar to 5000 ml of warm boiled water, 1.75 grams of refined salt is equivalent to half of the beer bottle cap, and 10 grams of white sugar is equivalent to 2 teaspoons. Use homemade rice soup and salt liquid for rehydration, that is, add 1.75 grams of refined salt to 500 ml of warm boiled water.

2. It is now recommended that babies with diarrhea should not fast, but they should follow the principle of small and frequent meals and eat at least 6 times a day. Breastfed babies continue to drink breast milk, but the mother's diet should be lower in fat, otherwise it will make diarrhea worse. Babies who are bottle-fed within 6 months can drink milk in normal amounts. Babies over 6 months old who have already started weaning foods can eat some easily digestible foods, such as porridge, soft noodles, minced fish, a small amount of vegetable puree, fresh fruit juice or banana puree until 2 weeks after the diarrhea stops.

3. If the situation is very serious, go to the hospital immediately.

Reasons why babies vomit and have diarrhea

Caused by indigestion: If the baby's indigestion is caused by this, first of all, you should control his diet and try to avoid eating beans, leeks, rice and other foods that are difficult to digest. Let the baby eat more steamed buns (baked steamed buns are better, which have a stomach-strengthening effect), drink porridge, and you can also give the baby some hawthorn water, etc., to relieve the baby's indigestion.

Diarrhea caused by a cold stomach: When the baby's stomach catches a cold, he should eat more warm foods, such as hot millet porridge, ginger soup, etc., which are both nutritious and warm the stomach. Drinking regularly can effectively relieve your baby's diarrhea
