Mole becomes larger and raised

Mole becomes larger and raised

Almost everyone has pigmented moles. Most people have relatively small moles. And we all know that pigmented moles are benign tumors and will not change unless stimulated. If a mole grows on your face and affects your appearance, you can remove it through some methods. If a child has a mole, it may grow a little as the child grows. If the mole becomes larger and more prominent, don't panic. Understand the situation and then decide whether treatment is needed.

It is difficult to explain why the mole becomes larger. If you want to clarify the nature and cause, you must undergo a biopsy and pathological examination. Therefore, it is recommended that you go to a local regular hospital for dermatology. First, ask the attending doctor to see the actual situation of the mole in the affected area, and then conduct a biopsy and pathological examination. The pathological diagnosis will be the final diagnosis, so it is better to decide the next step according to the results of the pathological examination.

Generally speaking, most pigmented moles are benign, but a small part of them have the risk of malignant transformation. Frequent external stimulation will also increase the rate of malignant transformation. Usually, if a mole becomes larger, ulcerated, or painful in a short period of time, it is considered to be a possible malignant transformation. In addition, moles located in areas prone to friction usually increase the risk of malignant transformation.

Mole cells can be divided into the following three types according to their distribution location in the skin. Simply put, the skin is divided into the epidermis and dermis from the surface to the deep layer. When nevus cells are located at the junction of the lower epidermis and dermis, it is called a junctional nevus; when nevus cells are located in the dermis, it is called an intradermal nevus; when nevus cells are located in both the epidermis and the upper dermis, it is called a mixed nevus. From the appearance, we can see:

l) Junctional nevus: Brown spots with diameters ranging from several millimeters to several centimeters and varying shades. They are usually smooth and hairless, but may also be slightly raised and can occur anywhere on the body. Pigmented nevi on the palms and genitals belong to this category. Histopathological characteristics: Actively growing hemorrhoidal cells can be observed at the junction of the epidermis and dermis, which are connected to the epidermis and have a tendency to malignant transformation.

2) Intradermal nevus is the most common pigmented nevus in adults. It can occur in any part of the body, but is most common on the head and neck. The size of moles ranges from a few millimeters to several centimeters, with regular edges of varying shades of brown. There may be hair on the surface, and they are hemispherical protrusions that generally do not increase in size. The rate of malignant transformation is extremely low, mainly because intradermal nevi do not have active nevus cells.

3) Compound nevus looks similar to junctional nevus, but is slightly more raised than junctional nevus. Because of the presence of junctional nevus components, there is a possibility of malignant transformation. You compare it. From your description, it should be an intradermal nevus. If you are worried, go to the hospital for a check-up. Also, try to avoid touching or irritating moles as much as possible.
