The efficacy and function of saltpeter

Saltpeter is not only a kind of mineral, it is also a traditional Chinese medicine. It has certain effects in treating diseases, such as headaches and abdominal pain. When your eyes are red, swollen and painful, you can also use saltpeter for treatment. It can also play a certain role in preventing dysentery. Of course, saltpeter is a mineral. For ordinary people, it is best not to treat it by yourself, but also under the guidance of a doctor.

What are the effects of saltpeter?

1. Headache. Blow saltpeter powder into the nose and the disease will be cured.

2. Heart and stomach pain. Take one qian of saltpeter and realgar and grind them into powder. Apply a little bit inside the eye socket and it will heal. This recipe is called "Fire Dragon Pill".

3. Lower back and abdominal pain. Also use Fire Dragon Pill.

4. Red, swollen and painful eyes. Grind saltpeter into powder, take a millet-sized amount and apply it into the eye sockets while lying down. The next morning, wash off with salt water.

5. Eye disorders. Use one ounce of saltpeter, melt it in a copper container, add two fen of red lead and two fen of flakes of lead that has been melted by water. Eye dot.

6. Throat paralysis. Use 1.5 liang of saltpeter, 1 qian of white silkworm, 0.5 liang of borax, and a little brain, grind them into powder, and blow them into the throat.

7. Diarrhea caused by summer heat, and bleeding from the intestines. Use one liang each of saltpeter and sulfur, half a liang each of alum and talc, and four liang of flour. Grind them together into a fine powder, add water and make them into balls as big as walnuts. Take 30 to 50 pills each time. Send it with clean water.

8. Five types of stranguria (1. Overwork stranguria: fatigue, weakness, urinary obstruction, acute pain in the lower abdomen. 2. Hematuria stranguria: inability to urinate, only bleeding, and severe pain. 3. Heat stranguria: red and hot urine, acute pain below the navel. 4. Air stranguria: fullness and urgency in the lower abdomen, often with residual drops after urination. 5. Stone stranguria: inability to urinate, only stones and sand, and bloating and pain in the lower abdomen). Use one ounce of top-quality saltpeter, grind it into powder, and take two ounces each time. For those who suffer from stranguria due to overwork, boil sunflower seeds into a soup and drink it with it. After the bowels are cleared, you should take Buxu Pills and Powder. Those who have bloody or hot showers should be given cold water. For those suffering from stranguria, use boiled Akebia decoction to relieve the symptoms. For stranguria with stones, take it down with warm water, but first fry the medicine powder in a pot with paper. The name of this prescription is "Touge San". Those who generally have difficulty urinating. You can also take Tougesan with wheat soup.

9. The initial stage of back carbuncle (chills, sores, swellings and rashes on the back). Use three ounces of saltpeter and dissolve it in one liter of boiling water. Then soak a thick towel in water and wring it out and apply it to the affected area. Change the towel when it gets cold.

10. Black jaundice caused by labor in women (feeling chills and fever in the evening, urinary urgency, fullness in the lower abdomen, yellow body except for the forehead, hence the name “black jaundice”). Use saltpeter and alum stone (burned), grind into powder in equal parts, take one teaspoon each time, and wash it down with barley juice. Take three times a day. After taking the medicine, if the urine turns yellow or black, it is a sign of recovery.

The magical use of saltpeter:

Someone has verified that there are only three Chinese medicines in "Ben Jing" that have the effect of "discarding the old and bringing in the new", they are bupleurum, rhubarb and saltpeter. Since saltpeter is not a commonly used medicine, few people mention it.

Over the past few years, the author has used saltpeter to treat psoriasis and calculi in some high-incidence areas of both diseases in Guangdong and Zhejiang, with good results. The results are introduced as follows.

To treat psoriasis, grind equal amounts of saltpeter and alum into powder, then mix it into a paste with fluocinolone ointment. Apply it to the affected areas. It is best to take Chinese medicine for clearing heat and cooling blood at the same time. Psoriasis will usually be effective within one month.

For the treatment of urinary stones, grind equal amounts of saltpeter and alum into powder, put them into capsules, and take 4 to 15 g after meals every day. It can be taken all at once or in divided doses, and drink plenty of water at the same time. The stone dissolving effect is ideal. The largest staghorn stone dissolved by the author in clinical treatment has a diameter of 35mm.
