Where to apply moxibustion for dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea usually causes pain in the lower abdomen. Acupuncture can relieve the pain appropriately, and drinking some Chinese medicine can also treat dysmenorrhea. During acupuncture, the area around the navel is usually moxibustioned, such as the Shenque point, Qihai point and other acupoints. You need to consult a specific acupuncturist for specific details. However, when doing acupuncture, you must choose a regular acupuncture place, and do not go for moxibustion too often. You must keep your abdomen warm and avoid eating raw or cold food.

What acupoints are used for moxibustion for dysmenorrhea

1. Shenque Point

Shenque point is our navel. The point is the gateway to the primordial spirit, so it has the effect of restoring yang, rescuing from adverse conditions, opening the orifices and relieving fainting. And because it is located in the middle part of the abdomen, the hub of the lower abdomen, and is close to the stomach and large and small intestines, this point can also strengthen the spleen and stomach, regulate the intestines and stop diarrhea. Moxibustion on this point can have a therapeutic effect on general diarrhea, abdominal pain around the navel, rectal prolapse, five types of stranguria, infertility due to cold blood in women, dysmenorrhea, etc.

Light the moxa stick and aim it at your navel, about 2-3 cm away from the skin, until you feel it is warm, and keep it still. When doing moxibustion, you can put salt in your navel or cover it with ginger slices.

2. Qihai Point

This point is located 1.5 inches below the navel on the midline of the abdomen. It is mainly used to treat abdominal pain around the navel, edema, abdominal distension, indigestion, constipation, enuresis, spermatorrhea, impotence, hernia, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, postpartum lochia, retained placenta and other symptoms.

The Shenque, Qihai and Guanyuan acupoints are adjacent to each other. You can use a 3-hole moxibustion box to regulate your body while saving time and effort.

3. Guanyuan Point

This point is located in the lower abdomen, on the midline of the body, 3 inches below the navel. For women, Guanyuan acupoint mainly plays the role of storing blood. Women are yin, and the abdomen is the central spleen and earth. Any problems such as insufficient yang, blood stasis, cold pain in the abdomen, dysmenorrhea, as well as spleen and stomach function and liver qi discomfort can be regulated through moxibustion on the Yuan acupoint.

The turn of summer and autumn is the best time to apply moxibustion to Guanyuan acupoint. During this period, moxibustion to Guanyuan acupoint can not only strengthen the body and bones, prevent influenza, but also prolong life. Find the Guanyuan acupoint, light the moxa stick, and perform moxibustion. It is generally recommended to do it for 10 to 20 minutes.

4. Sanyinjiao Point

This point is located three inches above the inner ankle of the calf. Sanyinjiao is the intersection of the three yin meridians: the liver meridian, kidney meridian and spleen meridian. Moxibustion on this point can draw yang from yin and balance yin and yang. Once balanced, gynecological symptoms that female friends often suffer from, such as soreness of waist and knees, increased leucorrhea, irregular menstruation, etc. can be improved.

You can perform moxibustion on Sanyinjiao under the guidance of a professional doctor, or you can massage it yourself at ordinary times, each time until the local area becomes hot and swollen, or you can frequently use a hot towel for compresses.
