What are the causes of coma?

Coma is a particularly dangerous thing. There are many reasons for coma, most of which are caused by major diseases. For example, brain tumors, heart disease, brain trauma, systemic diseases, etc. are all important causes of coma. Different causes of coma naturally require very different treatments, but it is important to prevent them before they happen, discover them early and treat them early, so that the condition does not become serious and cause coma, which will affect the treatment.

There are many causes of coma : (1) Coma is accompanied by localized signs of the neurological system, such as cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, brain trauma, brain tumor, brain abscess, encephalitis, brain parasitic disease and brain hernia. (ii) Coma is accompanied by signs of meningeal irritation, such as meningitis caused by various bacteria, viruses, and fungi, asthenic meningitis caused by systemic infection, blood entering the subarachnoid space due to cerebral hemorrhage, brain trauma, etc., brain tumors, brain abscesses, encephalitis, etc. invading the subarachnoid space, as well as subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial venous thrombosis, and high intracranial pressure. (3) Coma caused by systemic diseases is seen in severe infections, endocrine and metabolic disorders, electrolyte disorders, etc.

1. Infectious diseases: viral infections : such as epidemic encephalitis B, forest encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, enteroviral encephalitis, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, encephalitis-type influenza; toxic encephalopathy: such as toxic pneumonia, toxic dysentery, sepsis, etc.

2. Endocrine and metabolic disorders such as diabetic ketoacidosis, spontaneous hypoglycemia, chronic renal failure, hepatic coma, pulmonary encephalopathy, cardio-cerebral syndrome, pancreatic encephalopathy, thyroid crisis, pituitary coma, chronic adrenocortical insufficiency coma, lactic acidosis, pregnancy poisoning, severe transfusion reactions and infusion reactions, etc.

4. Coma caused by acute poisoning

1. Gas poisoning: poisoning by carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, benzene, aniline, butadiene, carbon disulfide, etc.

2. Pesticide poisoning: acute poisoning by organophosphorus, organochlorine, organomercury, chloropicrin, zinc phosphide, thallium sulfate, etc.

3. Drug poisoning: poisoning by barbiturates, diazepam, isoniazid, chlorpromazine, phenytoin, morphine, belladonna, alcohol, etc.

4. Plant poisoning: poisoning by bitter almonds, cotton seeds, poisonous mushrooms, Gelsemium elegans, Xanthium sibiricum, ginkgo, etc.

5. Animal poisoning, such as snake bites, bee stings, etc.

6. Coma caused by physical factors: acute heat stroke, drowning, electric shock, high altitude coma
