Left ethmoid sinusitis is a type of rhinitis in the human body. When a person suffers from ethmoid sinusitis, it has a great impact on his or her daily life. It not only affects breathing, but the bacteria contained in the nose may also spread and cause other diseases. Therefore, in the face of this situation, people need to actively understand it, and then take effective measures to treat and regulate it. Here we will introduce how to treat left ethmoid sinusitis? Among the paranasal sinuses, the ethmoid sinus has the most complex anatomy, especially the semilunar hiatus at the opening of the anterior ethmoid sinus and its nearby uncinate process and ethmoid infundibulum, which are small protrusions and groove-like spaces in the middle nasal meatus, called the ostiomeatal complex. This is where the nasal airflow impacts, and it is also the place where bacteria, viruses, and inhaled antigens (allergens) are most likely to invade. Whether it is infection or allergy, the initial manifestation is swelling of the mucosa, cessation of ciliary movement, obstruction of ethmoid sinus ventilation and drainage, and then spread to other sinuses. Due to poor drainage of the ethmoid sinus, inflammation is difficult to dissipate and can easily become chronic. Treatment and prevention 1. Non-surgical treatment Including nasal drops of mucosal vasoconstrictors and antibiotics, negative pressure replacement, physical therapy, etc. Suitable for children and patients with weak bodies and systemic diseases. 2. Endonasal ethmoid sinus resection 1. Indications (1) Chronic ethmoid sinusitis that has not responded to conservative treatment. (2) Multiple polyps in the ethmoid sinus area that recur after multiple intranasal surgical removals. (3) Patients with ethmoid sinusitis who have or are suspected of having intraorbital or intracranial complications. (4) Used as a preparatory step for frontal sinus surgery or sphenoid sinus surgery. (5) Tumors and cysts originating from the ethmoid sinus. (6) Fungal ethmoid sinusitis. 2. Contraindications Patients with acute upper respiratory tract infection and blood diseases. 3. Surgical Procedure (1) The top wall of the nasal cavity is the cribriform plate, which is slightly lower than the top of the ethmoid sinus. The angle between the outer edge of the cribriform plate and the inner wall of the ethmoid sinus is very susceptible to surgical damage. Therefore, during surgery, the instrument should not exceed the plane of the middle turbinate attachment too much to avoid accidentally entering the skull and causing cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea and meningitis. (2) The optic nerve and internal carotid artery are located in the thin bone wall at the outer and superior corners of the ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses. If they are damaged, they may cause serious complications and should be treated with caution. (3) The lateral wall of the ethmoid sinus is extremely thin, called a paper plate. Sometimes it is a natural defect, and sometimes it has been caused by a previous operation. During surgery, care should be taken not to accidentally enter the orbit to avoid causing orbital complications. |
