Time for Japanese encephalitis vaccination

Time for Japanese encephalitis vaccination

I don’t know if you have heard of Japanese encephalitis, but parents who have children must be more familiar with this disease, because when children grow to a certain age, parents need to take their children to the hospital to get the Japanese encephalitis vaccine. Japanese encephalitis was discovered in the last century. It is a highly contagious disease, so generally babies need to be given a Japanese encephalitis vaccine at birth to prevent infection. So at what age does a baby need to be given a Japanese encephalitis vaccine?

The time for Japanese encephalitis vaccination varies according to the type of vaccine, including live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine and inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine. The specific time for Japanese encephalitis vaccination is:

Live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine: healthy children over 8 months old and children and adults entering the epidemic area from non-epidemic areas. The Japanese encephalitis live attenuated vaccine is administered in two doses, with children receiving one dose each at 8 months and 2 years of age.

Inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine: children aged 6 months to 10 years and children and adults entering the epidemic area from non-epidemic areas. The inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine is administered in 4 doses, with children receiving 2 doses at 8 months of age, and 1 dose each at 2 and 6 years of age.

There are two types of Japanese encephalitis vaccines: live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine and inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine. After injection of Japanese encephalitis vaccine, the protection rate of inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine is generally 60% to 90%. The neutralizing antibody conversion rate can reach over 80% after a single injection of the live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine, and over 90% after booster injection in the second year. Generally, there are two types of vaccines, namely, live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine and inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine. There is a difference in the time of administration of the two vaccines.

1. Inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine: The national immunization program stipulates that basic immunization requires two injections. The first injection is given when the baby is 6 months old, and the second injection is given 7-10 days later. A booster injection is given at 1.5 to 2 years old (18 to 24 months old) and at 4 years old, and another booster injection is given at 6 years old. For babies in epidemic areas, emergency vaccination should be carried out for babies under 6 years old whose Japanese encephalitis immunization history is unknown or who have not completed the full vaccination schedule.

2. Live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine: The first dose is given at 1 year old, a booster dose is given at 2 years old, and another booster dose is given at 7 years old. People with fever, acute diseases, severe chronic diseases, neurological diseases, allergic diseases, a history of allergy to antibiotics, and those with allergic constitutions are not suitable for injection.
