Why does my lumbar spine hurt when I sit?

Lumbar problems do occur frequently in our daily lives and have a lot of impacts on our bodies. Lumbar pain can occur when sitting, and there are many types of problems, such as chronic lumbar strain, lumbar disc herniation, bone spurs or bone hyperplasia, and spinal stenosis. All of these require clear treatment and examination.

reason

There are many causes of lumbar pain, about dozens of them. The more common ones include lumbar bone hyperplasia, bone spurs, intervertebral disc herniation, lumbar hypertrophy, spinal stenosis, lumbar fracture, spinal canal tumor, acute and chronic lumbar trauma or strain, lumbar muscle strain, ankylosing spondylitis, etc. In traditional concepts, chronic low back pain is often regarded as "lumbar muscle strain" after general examinations have ruled out disease factors. In fact, 40% of people with low back pain suffer from chronic compartment syndrome, but they suffer from low back pain for a long time because they cannot get symptomatic treatment. Many patients have had low back pain for a long time, and some have even been in pain for 50 years without knowing what the problem is. The trend of low back pain becoming younger is also very obvious, with some people suffering from this disease at the age of 18.

The lower back is the part of the human body that exerts the most force, providing support for the body and protecting the spine. For people who sit in the office for a long time and lack exercise, or people who need to stand for a long time because of work, maintaining a body position or posture for too long can easily cause lower back pain and induce chronic lumbar compartment syndrome. Some people also develop the disease after repeated injuries. Many patients with chronic low back pain are related to chronic compartment syndrome. The reason may be that the increased pressure within the compartment leads to the disappearance of the space under the lumbar fascia, decreased muscle blood flow, and degeneration of loose adipose tissue. Due to this damage, the patient will experience back pain no matter how much he walks, sits or lies down, that is, maintaining a posture for a long time can easily cause back pain. This is an important clinical feature of chronic compartment syndrome.

Blockade therapy

Injecting medication into the painful area and around the nerve roots is called blockade. It mainly plays the role of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and improving blood circulation.

General treatment

General physical therapy includes massage, acupuncture, electrotherapy, cupping, laser, ultrasound, paraffin therapy, etc. This type of therapy is mainly based on anti-inflammatory and analgesic, blood circulation and blood stasis removal, and has a good therapeutic effect. Lumbar pain is a typical symptom of lumbar spondylosis. Since most patients with lumbar spondylosis are accompanied by chronic lumbar muscle strain and piriformis muscle tension, the nerves compressed by lumbar spondylosis cause muscle spasms along the nerves' passage, resulting in low back and leg pain. Generally, hospitals use physical therapy, massage, acupuncture and other treatment methods to relieve muscle tension and spasms. So patients who have done physical therapy know that they will feel more comfortable during the therapy, and will return to their normal state after they stop. Therefore, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture and other treatment methods are only used as a complementary treatment for lumbar spondylosis.
