What are the symptoms of severe iron deficiency?

I believe that many people use iron pans for cooking at home, because during the cooking process the iron element in the iron pan can be incorporated into the dishes, thus better supplementing the iron element that the human body lacks. Moreover, iron plays a very important role in the human body. If the human body lacks iron, a series of adverse reactions will occur. When these adverse reactions occur, most people do not consider that they are caused by iron deficiency, so what are the symptoms of severe iron deficiency?

Symptoms of iron deficiency in adults: chills and cold limbs, dizziness and tinnitus, listlessness, fatigue and weakness, sallow and dull complexion, dry skin, withered hair, cracked nails, insomnia, forgetfulness, palpitations, and mental confusion.

The hazards of iron deficiency in adults vary depending on the degree of iron deficiency in the body and the early or late development of the disease.

In the early stages, patients have no obvious symptoms, but blood tests show that hemoglobin is lower than normal. As the disease progresses, iron deficiency symptoms appear to varying degrees.

Mild anemia: frequent dizziness, tinnitus, inattention, and memory loss. The most easily discovered thing is the pale complexion, eyelids and nails caused by iron deficiency anemia of the skin and mucous membranes.

Moderate anemia: increased heart rate and frequent palpitations. Muscle hypoxia often manifests as general fatigue and easy tiredness. Hypoxia of the digestive tract can cause loss of appetite, abdominal distension, diarrhea, and even nausea and vomiting.

Severe anemia: Symptoms of anemic heart disease such as heart enlargement, abnormal electrocardiogram, and even heart failure may occur. Some people may also experience mental disorders or unconsciousness.

What to do if you are iron deficient?

1. For moderate or severe iron deficiency anemia, oral iron therapy is very necessary. In addition to taking iron supplements, taking a small dose of folic acid (400ug per day) during pregnancy is not only beneficial for preventing anemia, but also for preventing congenital neural tube defects and congenital heart disease.

2. Improve your diet and eat foods rich in iron. For example, animal liver, blood tofu and meat. Also eat fresh vegetables, as fresh green vegetables are rich in folic acid. Expectant mothers who are picky eaters should correct their eating habits as soon as possible. Expectant mothers with picky eating habits are more likely to suffer from anemia during pregnancy.
