Some people have smooth skin, but most people feel that their skin feels bumpy. This is normal. If you have small pimples on your face that look like chicken skin, it is because of keratosis pilaris. There are just a few tiny bumps, just like the little pimples on our thighs, but the difference is that the little red spots caused by chicken skin will not cause any extra feeling, but the little pimples will be a little itchy, and pimples will get better while chicken skin can only be improved. It is keratosis pilaris. Many of us have small red bumps on the pores of our skin. In more serious cases, the color of the pores will become darker, dark red or brown, and the particles will become rougher, looking very much like goose bumps, so keratosis pilaris is also commonly known as "chicken skin." The most common areas where it appears are the outer sides of the upper arms, thighs, neck, and even the entire back and cheeks - some people have darker and rougher skin on their cheeks, and although the granularity is not very obvious, it is also considered "chicken skin." "Chicken skin" does not hurt or itch, and will not cause disease, but it is extremely dry and flaky, which affects its appearance. "Chicken skin" is a physical condition caused by genes. For people with this physical condition, the keratin around the hair follicles will thicken, causing the hair follicle openings to be blocked by the excessive keratin, forming small bumps. In autumn and winter, the keratin of the skin thickens, and "chicken skin" becomes more serious. Some people even show symptoms of "ichthyosis" - this sounds scary, but it is actually caused by extreme dryness, which makes the skin appear uneven in color like pieces of fish scales. Many people have this symptom without knowing it. In addition, "chicken skin" is also related to vitamin A deficiency, and you can take vitamin AD pills appropriately. "Chicken skin" is natural and cannot be "completely cured", but it can be effectively improved. Because "chicken skin" is related to the thickening of the keratin, gentle exfoliation is necessary, but it must not be excessive. There are many ways to exfoliate. When we take a bath, we can use shower gel containing scrub particles, rub our body vigorously with a bath sponge, bath ball, etc., which can achieve the effect of exfoliation. However, washing like this every day will make the already dry "chicken skin" unbearable, and become thinner and drier, which in turn will irritate the "chicken skin" to become worse. Our skin's keratin renewal cycle is 28-45 days, so such intense exfoliation once every 1-1.5 months is enough. A relatively gentle way to exfoliate is to use bath salts (table salt can also exfoliate, but the sodium in it will dry out the skin. People with "chicken skin" are better off using Dead Sea bath salts which have moisturizing properties). You can take a bath with bath salts, or you can dissolve the bath salts in hot water first, then mix it with a plant-based shower gel (shower gel with more chemical agents will react chemically with the bath salts), and use it in the shower. When taking a bath with bath salts, you can also add rose and sandalwood essential oils to exfoliate and moisturize the skin. |
