What to do if the water breaks without labor pain

We all know that women will experience pain when giving birth, which is like walking through the gates of hell. The day a baby is born is the day of suffering for the mother. The mother goes through ten months of hard work before the baby is born. Generally, during childbirth, the amniotic fluid breaks first, followed by the cervix dilating. Mothers will feel pain when the amniotic fluid breaks. What if they don’t feel pain?

1. If the pregnancy is full-term, premature rupture of membranes is often a sign of impending labor. If the cervix is ​​found to be ripe, the baby can be observed. Generally, natural labor will occur within 12 hours after rupture of membranes. If labor does not begin within 12 hours, medication may be given to induce labor.

2. Premature rupture of membranes (PRM), if the gestational age is between 28 and 35 weeks, there is no infection in the PRM, and the depth of the amniotic fluid pool is ≥ 3 cm, treatment can be expected.

1. General treatment: Absolute bed rest, keep the vulva clean, closely observe body temperature, heart rate, uterine contractions, vaginal discharge characteristics and white blood cell count.

2. Prevent infection. If membranes have been ruptured for more than 12 hours, antibiotics should be given to prevent infection. It can reduce the incidence of fetal and neonatal pneumonia, sepsis and intracranial hemorrhage, and can also reduce the incidence of chorioamnionitis and postpartum endometritis.

3. Inhibit uterine contractions. Magnesium sulfate is usually used.

4. To promote fetal lung maturity, dexamethasone is generally used.

5. Correct oligohydramnios. If the depth of the amniotic fluid pool is ≤2 cm and the gestational age is <35 weeks, transabdominal amniotic fluid infusion can be performed to correct oligohydramnios.

3. Ways to terminate pregnancy with premature rupture of membranes:

1. Vaginal delivery: suitable for women after 35 weeks of pregnancy, when the fetal lungs and cervix are mature.

2. Cesarean section: high floating fetal head, abnormal fetal position, immature cervix, mature fetal lungs, obvious amniotic cavity infection, accompanied by fetal distress, anti-infection and cesarean section are performed to terminate the pregnancy.
