Treatment for perforated eardrum

Treatment for perforated eardrum

The occurrence of tympanic membrane perforation is mostly related to compression by external force, that is, the tympanic membrane perforation caused by trauma, but what is the treatment for tympanic membrane perforation? The first thing you need to know is that a perforated eardrum cannot heal on its own and requires eardrum repair surgery to recover. Our eardrums are relatively fragile, so we must protect them more in normal times. Sometimes loud noises can cause the diaphragm to crack, so we should pay attention to this situation.

1. Treatment of tympanic membrane perforation

There are many reasons why tympanic membrane perforation does not heal for a long time, such as the perforation is too large and the blood supply is poor; Eustachian tube dysfunction; and local infection is not controlled, etc. From a histological point of view, permanent perforation is caused by the fact that after the perforation, if the squamous epithelium on the outside of the tympanic membrane grows faster than the growth rate of the fibrous tissue in the middle fibrous tissue, the squamous epithelium will cross the edge of the perforation and become continuous with the inner mucosal epithelium. Therefore, the perforation cannot heal and tympanoplasty is required to repair it.

1. What is eardrum perforation?

A perforated tympanic membrane, also known as a perforated eardrum, is a type of middle ear trauma caused by violence, traffic accidents, or changes in air pressure. In traditional Chinese medicine, it falls under the category of "ear gate leakage". Tympanic membrane perforation is often encountered in forensic clinical identification. There are many reasons that can cause tympanic membrane perforation, which are mainly divided into traumatic (direct or indirect external force) tympanic membrane perforation and inflammatory tympanic membrane perforation.

3. Prevention of tympanic membrane perforation

1. Strengthen hygiene and prohibit the use of sharp objects such as matchsticks and hairpins to pick ears. When removing foreign objects or earwax from the external auditory canal, be careful and moderate to avoid injuring the eardrum. When encountering blasting situations such as blasting mountains, blasting cannons, and setting off firecrackers, you can plug your ears with cotton or your fingers. Wearing protective earplugs will have a better effect.

2. After the eardrum is ruptured or perforated due to trauma, it can heal on its own. Because there are abundant blood vessels on both sides of the eardrum that anastomose with each other from the outside to the inside, its repair ability is very strong. However, the following points must be noted, otherwise bacterial infection will cause suppurative otitis media, which will be more difficult to treat.

3. Do not blow your nose hard. If there is mucus, inhale it into your mouth and spit it out. You can also take some anti-inflammatory prescriptions to avoid infection. If infection occurs and causes suppurative otitis media, it should be treated as otitis media.
