Is toothache in pregnant women due to calcium deficiency?

Is toothache in pregnant women due to calcium deficiency?

Many pregnant women will experience toothache during pregnancy. As we all know, there are many reasons for toothache. When pregnant women have toothache, many people say it is because of calcium deficiency. This statement is incorrect. Pregnant women do have calcium deficiency during pregnancy, but toothache is mainly caused by poor daily oral care or other reasons, and has nothing to do with calcium deficiency.

Is toothache in pregnant women due to calcium deficiency?

1. Pregnant women seem to be more prone to toothache, but it has nothing to do with calcium. There is a theory that the calcium in the teeth is fixed and will not be released due to calcium deficiency in the body, causing tooth decay. However, it is certain that during pregnancy, due to the development of the fetus and placenta, calcium supplementation is needed to supply the fetus's bone development, which requires more calcium. When the calcium concentration in the mother's blood circulation decreases and calcium supplementation is insufficient, pregnant women are prone to leg cramps. Tooth loss is not related to pregnancy and childbirth, it is mainly caused by poor oral hygiene.

2. Gingivitis is prone to occur during pregnancy. Pregnant women may start to experience toothache in the second month. The gums between two teeth will swell locally, and in severe cases, there is a risk of ulcers. The blood circulation in the mouth is affected, the tissues become fragile, and there is inflammation and congestion. This kind of gum change can easily cause the gums to rupture and bleed when rubbed by external objects. If it occurs, it will gradually become more serious and will be most severe in the eighth month. Because the placenta produces a large amount of progesterone, which enters the mother's blood circulation, the tiny blood vessels in the gums become congested and swollen. Gingivitis may also occur when taking birth control pills, which also contain progesterone. The concentration of progesterone in the mother's body reaches its peak in the eighth month of pregnancy.

3. Dentists advise pregnant mothers to wait until after giving birth before receiving treatment. Because some dental lesions will naturally subside and improve after delivery. However, if toothache, periodontal disease or other bacterial infections are so severe that treatment is necessary, in addition to telling your dentist that you are pregnant, the fourth to sixth month of pregnancy is the best time for treatment. In the early stages of pregnancy, fetal organs are differentiating and are easily affected by anti-inflammatory drugs, anesthetics, etc.; while in the late stages, the uterus is more sensitive and easily contracted by external stimuli, and treatment may cause premature birth.

What pregnant women need to pay attention to

1. Pay attention to personal hygiene. After a woman becomes pregnant, vaginal secretions increase and the vulva is easily infected by bacteria. She needs to clean it frequently, take a bath frequently, and change underwear frequently.

2. Pay attention to appropriate work and activities. However, the intensity should not be too high, avoid strenuous exercise to prevent trauma.

3. Pay attention to necessary nutrition.

4. Pay attention to your clothing. Clothes should be soft and loose, do not tie your waist or wear tight pants, and do not wear high heels. 5. Have regular pregnancy checkups to keep abreast of the fetal position and development. The pregnancy should be checked once a month within 7 months; once every half month during 8-9 months; and once a week in the last month. If you encounter special circumstances, you should go to the hospital for examination at any time.
