Low white blood cell count and recurrent fever

Low white blood cell count and recurrent fever

Nowadays, many families have only one baby, so the baby's health becomes the top priority of the family. If the baby has a fever, the adults in the family will be very anxious. If the baby has a fever, they need to go to the hospital for a routine blood test to check what is causing the baby's fever. In many cases, repeated fever in babies will cause leukopenia. Let us now understand the causes of leukopenia and how to correctly deal with this situation of repeated fever with low white blood cells.

Steps/Methods:

1 The reasons for leukocytopenia in most babies include: viral infection, drug-induced, physical and chemical factors, blood system diseases, diseases with splenomegaly, connective tissue diseases, allergic diseases, genetic diseases, etc. Most of the cases seen in clinical work are caused by viral infection or drugs. So parents don’t need to be too anxious. If it is caused by drugs, it will recover after stopping the drugs.

2 Fever caused by leukopenia will often recur, so family members must learn how to take care of the baby. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees Celsius, give oral antipyretics (commonly used ones are ibuprofen or acetaminophen) to reduce the fever. If it is below 38.5 degrees Celsius, give physical cooling, such as wiping the baby's body with warm water, putting a fever-reducing patch on the head, or placing ice packs on the large blood vessels.

3 Leukocytopenia is caused by viral infection and requires antiviral treatment. Chinese patent medicines are often used to clear away heat and detoxify, and oral vitamin B4 tablets and other white blood cell-raising treatments are used. The body temperature will drop in 3-5 days. Pay attention to whether there is any rash on the body. Recheck blood routine. White blood cell count increased to normal.

Note:

During the fever period, the baby must drink plenty of water, eat more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, reduce the amount of meat, eggs and milk, and eat light and easy-to-digest food. Change clothes promptly after sweating, clean your skin, and rinse your mouth after meals.
