Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis

There are many common types of diseases in life. When treating some diseases, the choice of methods is very critical. Different diseases have different treatment methods, so when treating, we must also pay attention to these issues. So how to treat ulcerative colitis? In the treatment of such diseases, drugs are a commonly used method, and this treatment method is also very helpful in stabilizing the patient's disease.

This type of disease poses a great threat to human health, and it also develops very quickly. Therefore, treatment for such diseases must be timely. At the same time, it is also necessary to have a good understanding of ulcerative colitis so that you know how to treat it best.

Ulcerative colitis:

Medical treatment: Since the cause and pathogenesis of this disease have not yet been elucidated, the goal of medical treatment is to control acute attacks, relieve the condition, reduce recurrences, and prevent complications. The disease cannot be cured at present. Its treatment depends on the scope and severity of the lesion, and mainly includes general treatment, nutritional support therapy, symptomatic treatment and drug therapy. Drug treatments include aminosalicylates, such as sulfasalazine and mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid), glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, and traditional Chinese medicine. In recent years, new progress in internal medicine treatment mainly includes the following aspects: the application of enteral nutrition, i.e. elemental diet; the application of new 5-aminosalicylic acid preparations; the application of other new dosage forms; and the application of immunosuppressive drugs.

General treatment:

①Since this disease is closely related to gastrointestinal nutrition, patients may have deficiencies in multiple nutrients, such as protein, vitamins, electrolytes and trace elements, and malnutrition in turn affects the effectiveness of drug treatment. Therefore, in recent years, a fat-free and residue-free elemental diet has become an important auxiliary treatment method. Easily digestible, low-fiber, nutritious food should be given, and milk and dairy products should be avoided. During the attack period, patients are given a liquid diet. In severe cases, fasting is required and nutritional therapy is given intravenously to allow the intestines to rest.

② Patients in the fulminant and acute attack stages should rest in bed. Those who are overly nervous may be given sedatives appropriately. Those with obvious abdominal pain or diarrhea may be given small amounts of atropine, scopolamine (654-2) and other drugs, but large doses may cause the risk of acute colon dilatation.

③ Patients with severe or long-term illnesses such as anemia, dehydration, malnutrition, etc. should receive blood transfusion, fluid replacement and systemic supportive treatment as appropriate. The application of protein synthesis hormones can improve general condition, increase appetite and accelerate ulcer healing. Special attention should be paid to water and electrolyte balance, and supplementation with multiple vitamins will be beneficial to the recovery of lesions and improvement of overall condition.

Through the above introduction, we have a good understanding of how to treat ulcerative colitis. However, we must actively cooperate when treating such a disease, and patients must pay attention to their diet, mainly eating light food. This will be of great help in controlling the disease in the future and will allow the body to absorb nutrients better.
