Normal urine sugar

Normal urine sugar

Diabetes has always been one of the common diseases among middle-aged and elderly people, but the diabetes level in normal people is always relatively low, or it can be said that the urine does not contain any sugar at all, so it cannot be accurately detected using general methods. Of course, for normal people, sugar can only be excreted from urine and form urine sugar after blood sugar exceeds a certain standard. So what is the normal value of urine sugar?

In fact, there are many reasons for high urine sugar. As the saying goes, "Diseases come from the mouth, and disasters come from the mouth." Therefore, in addition to daily eating habits, it is also related to some vascular accidents and even encephalitis. Below I will tell you what the normal value of urine sugar is.

Normal urine sugar

Normal people may have trace amounts of glucose in their urine, and the amount excreted in the urine is less than 2.8 mmol/24h, which is negative when tested by ordinary qualitative methods.

Qualitative: negative (-); Quantitative: <2.8mmol/24h (<0.5g/24h). The concentration is 0.1-0.8mmol/L (1-15mg/dl).

Causes of high urine sugar

1. Neurogenic glycosuria: Suffering from cerebrovascular accidents, tumors, skull fractures, encephalitis, epilepsy and other diseases will change the regulation of nerves and endocrine system, causing the decomposition of glycogen stored in the liver, increasing blood sugar and subsequently causing diabetes.

2. Dietary glycosuria: When the thyroid gland is hyperactive or the autonomic nervous system is in dysfunction, the sugar in the food is absorbed too quickly in the gastrointestinal tract, causing a temporary increase in blood sugar after a meal, which in turn increases the amount of glycosuria. When the glucose level in the blood is too high, sugar will appear in the urine. If a person who has been hungry for a long time suddenly has a big meal, he may produce sugar in his urine due to the relatively low insulin secretion function.

3. Drug-induced glycosuria: Long-term use of adrenal cortex hormones, posterior pituitary hormones, caffeine and amphetamines will increase blood sugar and cause diabetes. In addition, some drugs such as salicylates, para-aminobenzoic acid, chloral hydrate, morphine, aminopyrine and large amounts of citric acid can cause false positive results in urine sugar tests.

4. Renal glycosuria: Under normal circumstances, a person's fasting blood glucose concentration is 80 mg of glucose per 100 ml of blood. Based on the filtration rate of both kidneys of 125 ml per minute, 100 mg of sugar is filtered out in 1 minute, but there is no glucose in the urine. This is because all the glucose in the filtrate is reabsorbed into the blood when passing through the renal tubules. Renal diabetes is caused by poor reabsorption function of the renal tubules, and is more common in chronic nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, familial diabetes and neonatal diabetes.

5. Gestational glucose in urine: Urine glucose testing should be done in the middle and late stages of pregnancy, but the presence of glucose in urine does not constitute a diagnosis of diabetes. Lactose may occur in the late stages of pregnancy as breast function becomes active. We should also consider the decreased ability of the renal tubules to reabsorb glucose and the increased excretion of glucose during pregnancy, which may cause renal glycosuria. In addition, secondary glycosuria may occur in patients with pheochromocytoma, acromegaly, hypercortisolism, and severe liver disease.

Regarding the normal value of urine sugar, generally speaking, a normal person's urine contains no more than 2.8 ml of glucose, and the concentration of glucose is low. For patients with diabetes, the glucose in their urine exceeds the standard by dozens of times. Therefore, in addition to paying attention to eating habits in daily life, you also need to seek medical attention in time to find out the cause of high blood sugar as soon as possible.
