Symptoms of chronic pharyngitis

Symptoms of chronic pharyngitis

Pharyngitis is a common disease in life, especially among many men. But this disease is not limited to men, even women who do not smoke can be infected. Pharyngitis is divided into disease pharyngitis and chronic pharyngitis. If acute pharyngitis is not treated in time or treatment is delayed, it can easily turn into chronic pharyngitis. The treatment process of chronic pharyngitis is relatively long and it is easy to relapse. We need to understand the symptoms of chronic pharyngitis.

We should develop good living habits in our lives. Frequent smoking, drinking, and irritability can all worsen chronic pharyngitis. The symptoms of chronic pharyngitis are mainly local. You may feel a foreign body sensation in the throat, or have difficulty swallowing, or feel dryness or burning sensation. These may all be symptoms of chronic pharyngitis.

Although chronic pharyngitis can be divided into three types, the common symptoms are roughly similar, generally including discomfort in the throat. The clinical symptoms may vary from person to person and may be of varying severity, such as dry throat, itchy throat, burning sensation, slight pain, a feeling of throat blockage, fullness, and a feeling of foreign body attachment.

Due to the increase and viscosity of secretions, patients often make throat-clearing movements such as "crunch", which may also cause irritating coughs without sputum or coughing up a small amount of sticky sputum; some people are prone to nausea when gargling and brushing their teeth; others find it difficult to speak and their voices are not clear.

Dry and atrophic pharyngitis is characterized by a dry feeling in the throat, which needs to be moistened frequently by drinking water. The patient even has to get up several times at night to drink water, which is very painful. There are sticky and dry pus scabs attached to the patient's throat, so there is a foreign body sensation in the throat. The patient often coughs up yellow-green or gray-brown sputum. Sometimes, due to strong coughing, blood vessels are ruptured, causing blood streaks and blood clots in the vomit.

Severe dry throat can affect swallowing, and when eating dry and hard food, you often have to drink soup to help swallowing. Chronic pharyngitis generally has no obvious systemic symptoms. Some patients may have symptoms of indigestion, constipation or diarrhea, or neurological disorders such as dizziness, depression, irritability, and insomnia.

Key points for self-diagnosis of chronic pharyngitis symptoms

Discomfort in the throat, a foreign body sensation, a constant feeling that there is something in the throat that cannot be swallowed or spit out, stimulating coughing, dryness, swelling, blockage, itching, etc., but rarely sore throat. Frequent spitting out of thick phlegm in the early morning can easily cause nausea. Since early-stage cancer of the esophagus or hypopharynx can also cause similar symptoms, if you notice the above symptoms, you should go to the hospital for a detailed examination to confirm the diagnosis.

If examination shows diffuse congestion of the pharyngeal mucosa, dark red in color, and with a small amount of viscous secretions, it is chronic simple pharyngitis. Symptoms of chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis include thickening of the mucosa, diffuse congestion, or thickening of the palatal arch and soft palate edges, and numerous granular protrusions of lymphoid follicles on the posterior pharyngeal wall.

Common symptoms

Throat discomfort, common symptoms include dryness, swelling, blockage, itching, discomfort when swallowing, and foreign body sensation in the throat. Because the pharyngeal secretions are thick, patients often make "grunting sounds" in the hope of clearing the pharyngeal secretions.

Common signs

The patient's throat is sensitive, which can easily cause nausea, and the pharyngeal mucosa is congested and dark red. Scattered protruding small particles or pieces like beads can be seen on the posterior wall of the pharynx, surrounded by a dilated vascular network, and sometimes with mucus or purulent secretions on the surface.

Dust in the air, tobacco and alcohol allergies can all cause chronic pharyngitis, so we should avoid these situations in daily life, improve our working environment, pay attention to physical exercise, and live a regular life. If you feel sore in your throat, you should be careful. If it lasts for a long time, you must go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. There are many symptoms of chronic pharyngitis, and you should not take it lightly if you feel discomfort in your throat.
