Meniscus tear

Meniscus tear

Many people may not know what the meniscus is. In fact, the meniscus is a kind of cartilage tissue in our body. If you exercise or do some excessive labor activities, it is possible to cause the meniscus to tear. Many athletes have experienced this situation. The meniscus is located above the knee joint, so if it is injured it will have a certain impact on your life.

We need to know what a meniscus tear is so that we can better understand our condition and be more convenient for treatment. Friends who like some strenuous exercise should be careful. If the meniscus is torn, it may lead to the degeneration of joint position function.

Brief Introduction

The meniscus of the knee joint is a fibrous cartilage tissue, which is wedge-shaped with thick peripheral edges and thin inner edges. It is semi-lunar when viewed from a plane and is called a meniscus. It fills between the femoral condyle and the tibial condyle and has the effect of enhancing the stability of the knee joint. The structural and functional characteristics of the meniscus determine that it is one of the most vulnerable tissues in the knee joint. The incidence of meniscus injury is higher among people who engage in strenuous sports and special occupations.

Common symptoms

After a meniscus tear, the most common symptom is pain when walking or exercising. The pain can be on one side or the back of the joint, or it can occur when the joint is flexed or extended to a certain position. Many patients may experience a "clicking" sound in the joints when squatting or walking, often at a relatively fixed angle. Sometimes the joints may suddenly become stuck and unable to move, or they may suddenly become weak, affecting the quality of life. What is more serious is that the torn meniscus will involve the synovial tissue during joint movement, wear away the articular cartilage, cause chronic synovitis which is extremely difficult to cure, accelerate joint degeneration, and cause arthritis to occur early. Therefore, meniscus tears must be diagnosed and treated early.

The symptoms of a meniscal tear fall into two groups: those with locking and a clear diagnosis and those without locking and difficult to diagnose. The first group does not need to be discussed because the symptoms and signs have been described many times in other chapters. However, it must be emphasized that only by comparing the injured knee with the healthy knee joint can it be found whether the injured knee is locked, and the healthy knee joint should be in recurvature. The injured knee may lock but can still be straightened to neutral. Interlocking is common with longitudinal tears, especially bucket-handle tears, which usually occur in the medial meniscus. Locking is not specific to barrel-handle meniscal tears; it may be caused by intra-articular tumors, loose osteochondral bodies, and other conditions. Regardless of the cause, if locking cannot be relieved after aspiration of the intra-articular hematoma and a period of conservative treatment, surgical treatment is required. To be able to identify true and false interlocking.

Pseudolocking often develops immediately after an injury because the injury causes bleeding into the posterior capsule and around the collateral ligaments, causing hamstring spasm and preventing full knee extension. Joint aspiration and a brief rest period to allow some resolution of the reaction, followed by reexamination, can usually distinguish true from false locking.

The above is some information about U-intervention for meniscus tear. I hope it can alert more sports enthusiasts. Your body is your own, so you need to take care of it. When doing some strenuous exercise, you must know how to protect your body during the exercise and prevent yourself from getting hurt.
