What are the precautions before and after moxibustion?

When performing moxibustion, the burning moxa leaves produce a heat effect that can penetrate beneath the skin, thereby warming the meridians and dredging the collaterals, promoting qi and blood circulation, and regulating the functions of our internal organs, promoting the body's metabolism, strengthening the body, and enhancing resistance. Moxibustion has a history of more than 2,000 years in my country. Countless clinical practices have confirmed that moxibustion has excellent effects in treating diseases and maintaining health. Of course, there are many things to pay attention to before and after moxibustion.

Moxibustion is suitable for people with cold constitution (cold hands and feet, lack of energy, susceptible to cold, fear of cold, diarrhea, etc.). Teenagers, young adults, the elderly, men, women, and even newborn babies can all use moxibustion, as long as they have a cold constitution, or if they want to treat illnesses caused by dampness, cold, or cold evil. Moxibustion is mostly used for diseases dominated by deficiency, cold and yin syndromes, yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity, internal excess of pathogenic heat, and is not suitable for heat and excess syndromes.

People who are not suitable for moxibustion: those with hot constitution (oral ulcers, abscesses, fear of heat but not cold, constipation, etc.). Women should not use moxibustion during menstruation. Moxibustion is not suitable for patients with high fever, extreme hunger or fullness, excessive fatigue, or redness and swelling of the body. Before moxibustion: Because you cannot be exposed to wind during moxibustion, please close the doors and windows before moxibustion and do not allow ventilation in the room. The same applies in summer. Do not ventilate or turn on the air conditioner. You cannot do moxibustion immediately after a meal. You can do it 1 hour after a meal because you cannot do it when you are too full. Moxibustion is prohibited if the pulse rate is more than 90 beats per minute; moxibustion is prohibited when you are too hungry, too full, or drunk; it is not suitable for pregnant women's abdomen and lumbar sacral area; moxibustion is prohibited on inflamed parts of the body!

If you need to use moxibustion to treat a disease, you must carefully read and understand the precautions for moxibustion treatment introduced above, and try to avoid inappropriate behavior before, during and after the moxibustion treatment. It should also be noted that in addition to preventing fire or burns when using the moxibustion device, the fire source and temperature must be strictly controlled during traditional moxibustion treatment to avoid burns.
