Radiotherapy anal pain

Radiotherapy anal pain

Radiotherapy is an auxiliary treatment method for common tumors. If anal pain occurs during radiotherapy, it may be due to a side effect of radiotherapy. For example, constipation may occur during radiotherapy, which may also cause such pain. If it is more serious, a colonoscopy can be performed to see the specific situation and then deal with it.

Is radiotherapy harmful to the body?

Clinically, many cancer patients are reluctant to go to the radiotherapy department for fear of its side effects, and some even believe that radiotherapy will cause cancer and accelerate death. Professor Hou Youxian pointed out that this is actually a misconception in thinking. "All cancer treatments have side effects, but the side effects of modern radiotherapy are much smaller than those of surgery and chemotherapy. This is because it is only a local treatment, using the invisible knife of radiation to 'cut' the tumor away. There is no incision, no damage to organs, and it will not accelerate the patient's death."

Conventional radiotherapy has serious side effects. People are generally under the impression that conventional radiotherapy has low accuracy and serious side effects. Because conventional radiotherapy imaging and positioning systems only operate on a two-dimensional plane, doctors cannot see what is behind the tumor and can only rely on their senses and experience, like a blind man feeling an elephant. Under such large-area irradiation, the normal cells around the tumor are destroyed by the radiation like hostages, resulting in little impact on the tumor but very obvious side effects. So for decades, people have been afraid of conventional radiotherapy, and their impression of complications far outweighs its therapeutic effects.

Modern radiotherapy no longer kills innocent people indiscriminately. Modern radiotherapy has completely bid farewell to the "era of homemade cannons" where it was difficult to distinguish between friend and foe, and has entered the "era of precise missiles". Under the simulated positioning of PET/CT, modern radiotherapy deeply analyzes the tumor at the molecular level and directly kills the tumor according to its three-dimensional morphology, without involving normal tissues. Doctors dare to increase the radiation dose, thereby reducing the number of times and shortening the patient's radiotherapy time. The effect is much better than in the past and the side effects are also smaller. While radiotherapy cures diseases, it can also cause certain side effects or harm to the body. Through the above understanding, we know more about how radiotherapy affects the human body and how to better prevent and treat it. For the health of those around us and to learn more about common sense in life, we should pay more attention to radiotherapy and observe and understand it carefully and meticulously.

How long does it take for the side effects of radiation therapy to disappear?

The duration of radiotherapy is determined by the doctor based on the total radiation dose and the different radiation biological effects of different parts and tumors. It usually takes 4-8 weeks, with irradiation once a day and 5-6 times a week. The actual radiotherapy time is about a few minutes to half an hour each day. Of course, queuing every day also takes a certain amount of time. Under normal circumstances, it takes about an hour, and it may be longer under special circumstances.
