Food poisoning refers to adverse reactions in the body caused by toxic substances in food, which generally include four types: bacterial (such as E. coli), chemical (such as pesticides), animal and plant (such as puffer fish, lentils) and fungal (poisonous mushrooms). Food poisoning can occur in a single person or in a group. Its main symptoms are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, often accompanied by fever. If vomiting and diarrhea are severe, dehydration, acidosis, and even shock and coma may occur. The main way to prevent food poisoning is to pay attention to personal hygiene and food hygiene. Food stored at low temperatures must be strictly disinfected and thoroughly heated before eating. Do not eat poisonous or spoiled animals or plants, or food contaminated by chemicals. Once someone shows symptoms of food poisoning such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc., you should first stop eating the poisoned food, call the emergency center 120 immediately, and send the poisoned person to the hospital for gastric lavage, laxatives, and enema.

There are some self-help measures you can take until the emergency vehicle arrives:

1. Induce vomiting. For those who have been poisoned recently and have no obvious vomiting, you can first use your fingers, chopsticks, etc. to stimulate the root of the tongue to induce vomiting, or let the poisoned person drink large amounts of warm water and repeatedly induce vomiting on their own to reduce the absorption of toxins. If after inducing vomiting with large amounts of warm water, the vomit has become a relatively clear liquid, you can drink an appropriate amount of milk to protect the gastric mucosa. However, if bloody liquid is found in the vomit, one should consider the possibility of bleeding in the stomach, esophagus or pharynx, and it is advisable to stop inducing vomiting at this time.

2. Catharsis. If the patient has eaten the poisoned food for a long time, generally more than 2 to 3 hours ago, and is in good spirits, he can take some laxatives to help the poisoned food be excreted from the body as soon as possible. Generally, the purpose of inducing diarrhea can be achieved by decocting rhubarb and senna leaves or taking them with boiling water. In addition, because identifying the poisonous substance is very important for treatment, the food that causes the poisoning should be preserved and provided to the hospital for quarantine. If there are no food samples around, you can also keep the patient's vomit and excrement to help doctors make a quick diagnosis and provide timely treatment.

It is very useful to understand the symptoms of food poisoning and self-help measures. If food poisoning occurs, if everyone can understand some self-help methods, some serious harm can be avoided. Now everyone needs to know more about how to prevent food poisoning. The best way is not to eat out. It is safest to eat at home.
