Symptoms of osteoarthritis in the elderly

For elderly people who have worked hard all their lives, osteoarthritis is one of the most common diseases. Of course, some families with better living conditions are not prone to this disease. Osteoarthritis is a typical disease of the poor. Although living conditions are better now, it is still difficult to completely cure osteoarthritis. Moreover, many people know little about osteoarthritis and cannot distinguish it from other similar diseases.

Everyone knows that bone and joint diseases are very uncomfortable, especially for the elderly, as an attack often makes it difficult for them to move. So what are the symptoms of osteoarthritis in the elderly, and what aspects of osteoarthritis require special attention? These issues are very important for those who have elderly people suffering from this disease at home.

1. The pain is characterized by insidious onset and continuous dull pain, which often occurs after joint movement and can be relieved by rest. During sleep, the muscles around the joints are damaged and the protective function of the joints is reduced. They cannot limit painful movements like when awake, and patients may wake up in pain.

2. Morning stiffness and stickiness The morning stiffness of this disease is relatively short-lived, generally not exceeding 15 minutes. Sticking sensation refers to the feeling of stiffness and stickiness when a joint moves after being stationary for a period of time. It is more common in the elderly and lower limb joints and can be improved after activity.

3. Other symptoms may include joint deformity, instability, rest pain, and increased pain when bearing weight as the disease progresses. Dysfunction may occur due to poor fit of the joint surfaces, muscle spasm and contraction, joint capsule contraction, and mechanical locking due to bone spurs or joint rats. In weight-bearing joints, sudden loss of function may occur.

Through the introduction of the above content, we can understand that the symptoms of osteoarthritis in the elderly are quite obvious. The most important feature is pain. Many elderly people can't even sleep due to pain. Therefore, when osteoarthritis occurs in the elderly, they must actively cooperate with doctors to receive professional treatment, otherwise they will suffer.
