What are the uses of different concentrations of alcohol?

There are many uses for alcohol, and different concentrations of alcohol have different uses. How much do you know? In fact, there are many things we can know. Our alcohol is widely used in life. I wonder how much you know? The editor here would like to introduce to you the uses of different concentrations of alcohol. I know if you are so clear about the specifics, so let's take a look at it together!

1. 95% alcohol is used as fuel

Medical institutions often need to use alcohol lamps and alcohol stoves, which are used to heat the preparation of laboratory reagents or pharmaceutical preparations after being ignited. The flame can also be used to temporarily disinfect small medical devices.

2. 70%-75% alcohol is used for sterilization and disinfection

Used for skin disinfection, medical device disinfection, deiodination of iodine, etc.

Some people think that the higher the alcohol concentration, the better the disinfection effect, which is wrong. The function of alcohol disinfection is to coagulate the protein in bacteria, thereby killing the bacteria. However, 95% alcohol can quickly coagulate the protein on the surface of bacteria and form a protective film, preventing alcohol from entering the bacteria, and therefore cannot kill the bacteria completely. If the alcohol concentration is lower than 70%, although it can enter the bacteria, it cannot coagulate the protein in the body, nor can it kill the bacteria completely. Only 70%-75% alcohol can smoothly enter the bacteria and effectively coagulate the protein in the bacteria, thus killing the bacteria completely.

3. When using 70%-75% alcohol to disinfect medical devices, the immersion method should be used for no less than 30 minutes. After immersion disinfection, sterile saline should be used to rinse the device to prevent residual alcohol on the device from irritating the body tissue.

Because alcohol can only kill bacteria but not spores and viruses, iodine, which is more effective, is often used for skin disinfection before medical injections or surgery. In order to reduce the long-term irritation of iodine to the skin, iodine is generally removed with 75% alcohol after disinfection with iodine tincture.

Because alcohol is somewhat irritating, 75% alcohol can be used for skin disinfection, but cannot be used for disinfection of mucous membranes and large wounds.

4. 40%-50% alcohol is used to prevent bedsores

The back, waist and buttocks of bedridden patients may develop bedsores due to long-term pressure, and once bedsores are formed, they are difficult to heal; the way to prevent them is to turn over frequently, scrub frequently, and massage frequently.

During massage, the nursing staff will pour 40%-50% alcohol into their hands and evenly massage the patient's pressure areas to promote local blood circulation and prevent the formation of bedsores.

5. 25%-50% alcohol is used for physical fever reduction

In addition to drug treatment, the simplest, most effective and safe way to reduce the temperature of patients with high fever is the physical cooling method of 25%-50% alcohol bath. When using alcohol to scrub the patient's skin, it can not only stimulate the dilation of the skin blood vessels of patients with high fever and increase the skin's heat dissipation capacity; but also because of its volatility, it can absorb and take away a large amount of heat, thereby lowering body temperature and relieving symptoms.

How much do you know about the uses of alcohol of different concentrations? The editor hopes that you can really understand some of the situations involved. This is all I can introduce to you here. I know you must use this knowledge in your life, so I will provide you with so much here! I hope it can help you!
